This sophomore effort provides more of the same Southern charm, irreverance, and truthfulness that you have come to expect. You get the same bluesy, indie, southern rock/country rock flavor that the band is known for in 13 songs instead of 10.
13 MP3 Songs in this album (52:09) !
Related styles: Rock: Southern Rock, Country: Country Rock, Featuring Guitar
People who are interested in Lynyrd Skynyrd Zac Brown Band should consider this download.
Details:
This second helping of The 484 South Band was two years in the making and worth the wait. The album has the same heart and flavor of the first album, "Mississippi Nights", and comes with 13 songs. The band still leans heavily on their Southern roots and fills the album with songs of the Blues, traditional country, old school Southern Rock, Americana, indie-country, etc. In other words, "same song, different verse."
The album was once again recorded at Route 1 Recording on the backroads of Lawrence County in Mississippi and produced by Black Dog Records (Marah, The Hilltops, Tyler Keith, Cary Hudson) former co-owner Chris Hudson. "21 Miles of Bad Road" will be the second to last album ever recorded at the studio of indie fame (Route 1).
Joining original band members Keith Schultz (guitar), David Johnson (drums/percussion), and Jim Oakes (vocals) for the album are Phil Cangelosi (guitar/vocals), Chalmers Davis - of Muscle Shoals fame (piano/organ), Sidney Babin (bass) and special guest, and original member/co-founder, Twain Pigott (guitar/banjo) returns to pen and play on a few songs.
The album kicks off with pounding drums and driving bass and guitars on the infectious LOVE ME before moving on to the redneck authentic anthem THAT BROTHER OF MINE. From there the band drives home the instant classic I DROWN. With backing vocals reminiscent of rock groups from the 70's the band brings this tale of love gone wrong to the surface.
The sublime ballad SOUTHERN ANGEL begins weaving a tale of heartbreak and ends with the Southern gospel choir in full tow with arms waving in the air. BATON ROUGE TONIGHT is an endearing ode to the current hometown of some members of the band. It's tinge of country brings this trip across the South back home to roost in Baton Rouge, LA.
ÅLL NIGHT LONG is honky tonker that professes love, the need for some more whiskey and a dance floor to bring it all together with the woman with "cold blue eyes". Chalmers Davis' piano hits all the right notes in the classic that leans heavy on good old school Southern Rock.
NO WORDS takes a slight turn introspective for the band. Coming across more contemporary Southern Rock this tale weaves a story of loss and redemption. LIFE WORTH LIVING (written by drummer David Johnson) is up next and it professes love for that one woman that has been there through thick and thin.
TAKE cranks the double guitars up for a good woman-done-me-wrong blast of head banging rock and roll. BORN AND RAISED touts the praises of coming home again. FADES, written by co-singer/acoustic guitar player Phil Cangelosi delves into indie country to bring a love song into the mix.
WROTE THIS SONG feeds off it's southern rock roots for a song of love lost before the album finishes up with the blues and it's most heartfelt song SO LONG.
SO LONG was co-written by former bassist DON HULL (1960-2010). Originally written by Don about his father, the words ring harder and more true for the remaining members of the band since Don's passing.
