Ian Widgery & Morton Wilson have collaborated with the Shanghai Tang Fashion brand on different projects since their groundbreaking release 'The Original 1930s Shanghai Divas Redefined' with EMI in 2002. This album is the result of that ongoing collaboration, the first collection of original tracks and new 1930s remixes under the 'Shanghai Tang Lounge Collection' banner.

Ian & Morton have taken the original 'remix' premise of Shanghai Divas and extended it to embrace new writers and artistes working in the Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing axis.

âIâm intrigued by symmetry â how our minds work, with one idea inspiring the next, not so much in a linear or geometric way, but texturally, the subtle shifts that occur as different elements converge. The Shanghai Tang colours, the feel of the fabrics in the couture and the scent when you walk into the store are actually part of the sound here. The âShanghai Tang Lounge Collectionâ is a new album of lounge music co-produced with platinum selling recording artist / international music producer Ian Widgery and award winning composer and music producer Morton Wilson from Schtung Music.

The âShanghai Tang Lounge Collectionâ music CD is an important component of the multi-sensory lifestyle experience that is part of the brandâs DNA. As Raphael le Masne, Executive Chairman of Shanghai Tang describes, âWhen you go into our stores, you smell the Ginger Flower scent, you see the colours that we play with, you have the beautiful feel of the silk... cashmere, and you have enchanting music.â

There are four key components to Shanghai Tang Lounge Collection. These are 1930s Shanghai Divas remixes like Crazy Band; new arrangements of existing classics featuring current artistes such as Li Ya & WendyZ; and then there are the brand new original compositions including I Like It, Take A Ride, Million Miles Away, and Donât Change, composed and written by artistes from within the Schtung extended team. The inspiration for I Like It came from a few snapshots that Mr. Wilson took during a Saturday stroll along Fuxing Lu, after dropping into the Shanghai Tang Café. He describes the creation as inspired and effortless, and that âthe song wrote itself, reallyâ. Beijing songstress Li Ya added vocals based on her experience of Shanghai and multi-talented HK composer and guitarist Tiger Hull pulled the strands together. The album also includes two bonus Runway Mixes for the clubbers and fashion crowd. The Shanghai Tang Lounge Collection will evolve and the Producers will continue to seek out up and coming Chinese divas and instrumentalists to work with Widgery & Wilson on new collaborations.

IAN WIDGERY

Ianâs remix work in the 90âs established him as a cutting edge producer in London â his tracks have been played on dance floors around the globe by Pete Tong, Sasha, Tiesto & Paul Oakenfold. After a three year stint in Hong Kong, Ian now works from his Vancouver base, Like Music Productions, writing and producing tracks that transcend musical genres.

MORTON WILSON

Morton Wilson co-founded Schtung Music Hong Kong in 1982 and works with a select group of composers and artistes from Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, Bombay and other exotic locations.

Schtung has an international reputation as a purveyor of high quality East meets West musical collaborations producing Asian styled arrangements and remixes for artistes including Robbie Williams, Gorillaz & David Bowie.
