One Musician's Universe

"What in the world are we here for?"

Welcome to my world...... As an architect of sound, I'd like to share a view of this beauty full planet, third planet from the sun.

A planet that seemingly spins - ever so silently in space. A place that appears to be the only planet - that Life, as we know it, exists.

Illuminated by the sun, and the moon, this floating orb of energy and matter, is called Home by more than 6.6 billion human beings - being human.

Home to billions of species - known and unknown, named and unnamed.

A self sustaining Self as far as Mother Nature is concerned.

We coexist on a planet filled with enough for all. Super intelligent as a species...... yet, so un-evolved as an earthly community.

Perhaps we're all on the endangered species list.

Are we on a course for self-destruction?

Worldwide, we support a system - building and buying - bigger and better weapons for mass destruction. In 1984, 1.7 million dollars per minute was spent on weapons worldwide! Later, sold, previously "the best"- for less.

I know the solutions are simple.

Let's use monies spent on weapons and use it for other projects such as - ways to: de-salify oceans, for drinking water, crops, fire, drought, etc.; support research for medical cures, and offer health care plans for everyone, "no human left behind", etc.!

Every being deserves a home, food, water and love.

With so much abundance of wealth on this planet, why would any person of fortune or fame, living in luxury, want to find the best tax cuts?

Are we not here together on this planet, to be in service to each other?

Our Creator, the same One, has many different names, different styles and methods to be praised.

Is any one way right? Is any one way wrong?

Is there a difference?

Some try to pry us apart, rather than meld us together. Teach tolerance and truth. Share compassion. Be kind. Think and grow globally.

Imagine, as millions of us do - that the world can live as One. If we begin to think this way, then the solutions become even more simple.

What a glorious time to be alive...... for some, - while others are in the depths of despair.

With mass global communications, it's so easy now to care, share and repair. No mistakes, now retakes.

Let's keep our "military might". We need them. Mother Nature will keep us, and them busy cleaning up after natural catastrophes.

After earthquakes, flooding, hurricanes, tornados, volcanic eruptions, droughts, whatever, however Nature expresses herself, let's respond as a global community.

Let's live as a world society. Let each country maintain well paid "service men and women" - to be in service - constructively.

After a natural disaster - wherever in the world, let these service people come, from all over the world to assist in that area. Look for the injured. Bury the dead. Help in the cleanup process, rebuild houses, plant gardens and assist them!

(Just a note to say this text had been written on November 11, 2004, - just six weeks before the powerful earthquake off Sumatra that gave birth to the great tidal wave of December 26th, 2004.)

Mother Nature will surprise us over and over again. Will we be ready? We can be if we all work together as a global society.

Imagine! Some people in the military have been called deserters. Perhaps they didn't want to kill another human being - not because they did not want to defend their country. What about religion and social laws and rules that say, "Do not Kill".

We are all Earth Citizens! Galactic Ambassadors - suspended in space - living together on the same planet. We must find the way to live in peace. Let's find our similarities and stop focusing on our differences.

Life, and death, is one experience we all share. Upon one's birth, that journey begins. No one knows how long their journey will last.

As a little girl, I was forever influenced by the 1953 movie, - The Day the Earth Stood Still. During the Cold War, a messenger said that Earthlings, must find the way to live in peace - or be totally obliterated by a source of power greater than we could ever imagine.

Are we that power? I believe it's time to see we share, this earth, it's true!

The birthing of a dream.....

"What in the world are we here for?" is a double cd collection of original songs, music and lyrics composed by me, Ellingsong, offering you, the listener, 135 minutes of music!

CD 1, entirely instrumental - a Rhapsody of Love Songs for Humanity - is also performed by Ellingsong.

I thought my music to be like a symphony until I looked up the definition.

A symphony is a long piece of music for a full orchestra, usually divided into four movements with different rhythms and themes, a harmony of sounds....

Yes, my music is symphonic, but definitely not as structured as that.

Intrigued, and while looking up definitions of various musical forms to help me better "define" my music, I discovered that a rhapsody of sound and energy was being born and expressing itself.... all I had to do was listen......

And so the rhapsody begins....

The first 54 minutes were recorded - as a solo instrumental - at the greatly respected Studio D in Sausalito, California, December 4, 2000. Both cds include Little Child, a John Lennon Songwriting Contest 2003 winner! - and bonus Track 22, is a 13 minute instrumental medley of upcoming songs!

For the next nine months, while listening to the original arrangement, knowing there were lyrics for most songs, I found myself really enjoying the instrumental version, consisting of concert grand and strings, simply soothing, embracing sounds - without a voice.

Suddenly a new vision emerged, a double cd. One with lyrics; one without. Already the instrumental version was finished.

I knew the songbird who would express my voice, but when would that project come to fruition?

In August of 2001, I sent a frequent flyer ticket to Yana Lehua, my dear friend of 18 years, to come to the Bay Area to record the lyrics for the cd - a dream held by both of us for many years.

Yana, was scheduled to leave Honolulu at 9:25 PM on September 11, 2001.

Courageous enough to fly at 3 AM on 9/16, - instead of 3 days of rehearsal - we had one, followed by two days of recording at Studio D.

We are pleased to share those results with you.

The title song was decided by the tragic events of 9/11.

May music inspire us to live as a caring world community!
