Jake began playing music at the age of nine. He has played and studied the trombone, voice, piano, drums and the trumpet; the latter has now become his main focus. He has been recorded on over eight cds, and has been featured on numerous shows for CBC radio and television, BRAVO!, and Jazz Fm 91. In 2003 he completed his debut CD as a leader, entitled This Time. At 10:00 pm Monday to Friday you can hear one of the tracks being used as the theme for the Canadian national CBC jazz show After Hours.
In Toronto, Jake has performed at almost every major venue as a sideman and as a leader. He has also performed in other major cities in Canada, Brazil, the U.S. and the Caribbean islands, with such greats as John Hicks, Rob McConnell and the Boss Brass, Liberty Silver, Norman Marshall Villeneuve, Don Thompson, Bob Mover, The Powder Blues Band, Long John Baldry and many more.
His studies have allowed him to spend extensive time in New York City and New Orleans. Jake presently lives and works in Toronto, Canada.
