Details:
Scott was born in Aberdeen Mississippi, a small town in the Northeast corner of the state. When he was around 2 years old, his family moved to another small town in Mississippi called Iuka. It was there, at Fifth Street Baptist Church, that Scott got his first taste of a Southern Gospel quartet. Some of Scott's earliest musical memories are of the Fifth Street Quartet, in which his dad, Dale, sang bass. "I can still see them standing around the piano practicing on Sunday nights after church," Scott recalls. So it was then, between the ages of 2 and 3, Scott became a fan of the Southern Gospel sound.

After moving back to Aberdeen a few years later, Scott could be found in the youth choir at Friendship Baptist Church with the occasional solo here and there. "I did most of my singing in the shower or in the car," Scott laughs. "I always thought I could carry a tune but just wasn't quite sure of myself."

It wasn't until Scott was in college that he became sure of his vocal abilities. While attending Itawamba Community College, he was persuaded by friends to audition for the schools singing group, Kaleidoscope. This group of singers was used to promote the college by singing at high schools and special events throughout the area. Scott was accepted and received a full scholarship for his talents. "It was at that point, I realized, hey...maybe I can do this!" he says. That was just the beginning!

From that point, Scott realized he wanted to be in the music industry. He decided that Murfreesboro, TN was where he needed to be. It was there that he enrolled at Middle Tennessee State University majoring in Recording Industry Management. His first semester there, he was able to secure an internship in the copyright department of Benson Music Group. But what really excited Scott, was the fact that the RiverSong record label was owned by Benson and was housed there as well. "RiverSong was where I wanted to be because they had Gold City, J.D. Sumner and the Stamps, Jeff & Sheri Easter and everyone in between that I had listened to growing up," says Scott. "I honestly couldn't believe it!" From the internship, he later secured a paying job with Benson as the tape vault manager and the all important mail clerk. By this time, he had gotten to know some of the RiverSong staff, like Norman Holland, and was able to start helping out in the publicity and radio promotions department.

Just before moving to Tennessee, Scott met his future wife, Dana. Scott had seen Dana at several of Kaleidoscope's concerts but did not actually meet until a month or so before his move to Murfreesboro. After a year of dating and many miles back and forth, Scott and Dana got engaged and were married on May 22nd, 1993. About this same time, Scott had taken over all publicity and radio promotion responsibilities for RiverSong Records. "It was a dream come true," Scott says, "to be able to work with all these wonderful artists that I had grown up listening to." Scott had accomplished a major goal, which was simply to work with the best in the business, and he had not even graduated from college.

Eventually finishing up college with a degree in Recording Industry Management, Scott accepted a position with a brand new record company. "Norman Holland was leaving RiverSong / Benson to head up the A&R department for this new company, called Chapel Music Group, which was being created by none other than Bill Gaither and Michael English, and he offered me a job in radio promotions," Scott says. "Of course I said yes!"

During this time, Scott and Michael English had gotten to know one another and soon became good friends. This was also the beginning of the end of a great singer's career. Michael had been caught up in a very bad situation and lost everything from friends, his record label and fans that once adored and loved him. "Having been around Michael, I knew that although he was this great icon in Gospel music, he was simply a man. I was also I huge fan, but I also knew he was as human as I was and just as vulnerable to the devil if not more so," Scott says.

Michael got a call from Mike Curb of Curb Records and he offered him a record deal. Michael accepted his offer and also a management deal from Larry Strickland of the Judd House, Inc. It was at this time Michael asked Scott to join the Judd House and his management team. "I was such a fan of Michael's and I wanted to be a part of the team that would help bring his voice back to the fans that he loved," said Scott. "So many people deserted Michael during this time. He had made a mistake, acknowledged his sin and repented yet people would not let it go. I watched this man struggle every day to try and make sense of all that had gone wrong. It truly amazed me at how I saw a lot Christians, point fingers and bring him down, instead of trying to lift him back up. The devil just did not want to let him go." It was also a chance for Scott to work with two of country music top performer's, Naomi and Wynonna Judd.

Scott stayed with the Judd camp for several years working with Michael through many ups and downs but eventually felt like his time had come to leave. "I had been with Michael through so much for so long, but I just felt like I couldn't help him anymore and I needed to be somewhere else," Scott says. "It was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make." That somewhere else turned out to be back home to Mississippi and the little town of Aberdeen.

After Scott and Dana moved back home to Aberdeen. Scott began singing again and focusing on his own music. Singing anywhere he was asked. It wasn't long before they welcomed their first child, Carley Grace in January of 1998. It was during this time that Scott began wondering about his salvation and whether or not he had actually been saved when he walked the aisle of Friendship Baptist at the age of 13. "There had been doubts in my life before, but I didn't think much about it and just kept going. I think I tried to compare my life to others and figured if I lived at least as good as they do then I am ok, because they say they're a Christian," said Scott. It was in October of 1998 that Scott walked the aisle of that same Baptist church he grew up in, and settled it for good. Scott is quick to say, "the doubt is gone."

Today, Scott is singing more and more and simply letting the Lord take his music and abilities and use them where He sees fit. He recently finished recording his debut, self-titled album and hopes to be able to use this to open up many more opportunities to lead others to Christ through music. Scott is even joined on stage by Carley, now 6 years old, whenever possible. Scott and Dana also have a son, Dalton, who is 3 years old. Scott says he keeps in touch with Michael and he is back singing again and Michael assures him that his walk with the Lord has never been closer.

Scott, Dana and their children attend Friendship Baptist Church where Scott helps with the children's choir in which Carley sings.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

Marty Funderburk - Writer/Producer - Daywind Records

I have produced hundreds of albums for Daywind and worked with some of the top artists in the industry, but none has ever impressed me as much as Scott Wilemon. His God-given gift for singing is only surpassed by his humility and heart for God. I don't consider him a client - I consider him friend and brother. Anyone who meets him will feel the same.

Stephanie Haynes - Greenville, MS

Scott, Your CD is awesome, you have done such a great job. As you already know my 7 year old son Colton loves the song "I Can Only Imagine". He plays that song everytime we go anywhere over and over! I thought that when you sung in our wedding nothing could be any better, but this CD is GREAT!! I cant wait to get your next one!
