Energetic, Good-humored rock'n'roll - and a whole lot more...

12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Classic Rock, POP: Beatles-pop

Details:
The band formed in 1974, in the world-renowned Scappoose (Oregon) music scene, with core members Brian Gardner, Dave Koennecke, Larry Horn, and Jim Horn. A brass section - Jim Turner and Jim Barbeau - was added in the mid-80's. Other band members have drifted in and out over the years, but Bri, Jim, Lar, Jim, Dave, and Jim have proven to be the True Wiener Survivors.

Their music? Well, you could teach a monkey to play this stuff: a combination of danceable classic rock and danceable originals. But then, monkeys are where we came from, dude. (At least where I did.)

The Wieners have played up and down the West Coast over the years, focusing on the Portland metropolitan area, inciting Wienermania on a regular basis. They've slowed down in the "touring" department over the years, even spawning grandchildren in their down-time.

Still, after thirty years, their legions of Wienermaniacs remain faithful, like human cicadas burrowed in the dirt of mundane human existence, awaiting their chance to rise up and explode upon the landscape in a frenzy of unabashed, joyous rock n' roll ecstasy, just like back in, uh, back in... where was I?

Okay, let's wrap it up: the band's good, but no one has ever been possessed of the genius - or insanity - to really market them. So, here's some raw Wieners for your listening pleasure.

CRITICS ARE RAVING (lunatics) ABOUT WIENER MUSIC:

â â(Babyâs a) Mongrelâ (is) an energetic rockânâroller with great guitar licks, and superb tenor vocals and harmoniesâ¦wholly original, but a distant comparison might be made to the Flaminâ Grooviesâ âShake Some Action.ââ¦

â¦The lead tenor vocals resemble an American Paul McCartney with a bar-room edgeâ¦â
The Oregonian, 9-14-91

â(They)â¦write a mean (actually, kind) pop anthem. The no-fi production keeps the group sounding like a bar band in love with the Beatles, but when youâve got tunes as great as âPatternsâ (a lost Shane Faubert ballad!) and âSome Make a Life,â youâve got an album that breaks through the bars.â
Yellow Pills Magazine, circa 1997

âI like the âPopâ side (of the band). My favorite is âSix Stringsâ from (the first album); thatâs my kind of music!â
Stefan Johansson, Yesterday Girl Records, Stockholm, Sweden, 6-16-97

âI really enjoy âWaiting For The Callâ/ very mellow and sweet.â
Gerard Girard, Radio Dio, St. Etienne, France, circa 1997

âThis stuff on the radio isnât as good as yourâsâ
Mom, circa 1968-present

ACCOLADES:

Portland Music Association Songwriters Contest Category Winner, 1989:
âThe Molly Molly Stompâ

Portland Music Association Songwriters Contest, Category Winner, 1992:
âThe Girls Live Onâ

Portland Music Association Songwriters Contest, Category Winner, 1993:
âMadam Alcoholâ

â¦So what are you waiting for, Schlomo? A Sign? Like Mother Theresaâs image on your waffle? Just buy the stinking record! Youâll be glad you did.
