Youâd never guess that the man behind Nociception Music is a French-Canadian. While most of his peers in Quebec province opt for French lyrics and (more often than not) texts ready-made for the traditional French-Canadian song canon, Nociception Musicâs output stands way beyond the instant sing-along to mindless words and recycled melodies. His lyrics are deeply poetic and the vocabulary eclipses many of his American or Anglo-Canadian peers, making him a first-class wordsmith.

Of course this implies that, in French-Canada, he is mostly striking his sword into the ocean and flying under the radar. However, thanks to the internetâs disregard for borders, he is making new waves away from home, wherever the English-speaking (or at least understanding) public is listening, and quickly catching up to the honesty of his music and especially to the brilliance of his texts.

Recorded professionally but pretty much live for maximum spontaneity and honesty, Rusty Crowns is the first official opus by Nociception Music and captures both new and older songs by one of Quebec province most under-rated singer-songwriter. Some of the songs (such as "Icons" and "The Fall") have followed the artist from his very first steps on the stage into his solo career, while more recent ones were freshly road-honed when he entered the studio ("Just a Number", "Just This", "Rotten Carcasses"). The hypnotic âPoisoned Limes (Frozen In)â saw its lyrics finished moments before the first take was recorded, leaving a gloomy yet fresh feeling throughout the track.

Rythmic, from subtle to pounding acoustic guitar, intricate harmonica work and clean/soft to powerful/gritty vocals form the building blocks of this simple yet extremely rich and powerful release.
