Los Gringos Salvajes call home a small village (Smithers) in remote northern British Columbia, Canada; however their sultry urban sound more closely resembles the modern day tango bar basements of Buenos Aires -- that's where lead songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Facundo Gastiazoro cut his teeth before emigrating a few years ago. Traditional music forms such as milonga and bolero frequently mix it up with jazz, swing and punk for an electric fusion that is uniquely their own. Sung mostly in Spanish, lyrics are at once gritty and poetic, often melancholy, teasing or darkly humorous. Los Gringos features the subtle but uncompromisingly groovy basslines of Gord Urban and the sensitive, dynamic stylings of veteran percussionist Richard Jenne. This forms the backbone, supporting the melodic ferocity of vocalists Facundo Gastiazoro and Nicole L'Orsa. The songs are deliciously tempered by the eery riffs from Mark Thibeault's slide guitar and from the sonorous bell of Patrick Williston's plaintive trombone. The band's first CD, 6000 Semillas de Manzana, was released in Canada and Argentina in early February 2007. The second album, Murder of Crows, was completed in 2009. Los Gringos Salvajes have recently been played on CFUR, The Peak/BVLD, CBC Radio Programs Freestyle (Nation wide), BC Almanac, Daybreak North, North by Northwest, All Points West and Roots and Wings.
