All of the songs on this CD were written for "the 4:30 band" and all have been performed by them live. The 4:30 band is a liturgical rock band from Sacramento, California.
What is "ligurgical rock"?
In 1999 Fr. Michael Carroll, a Catholic priest in Sacramento, California, asked Robert Mathews to lead a "rock band" (his words) to lead the 4:30 youth mass at Presentation Catholic Parish.
Robert wasn't sure if Fr. Mike was REALLY asking for a rock band, or just maybe a "folk guitar" sound.
Fr. Mike said NO, a ROCK BAND!
But there was not much music at all that was available at the time. To fill in the blanks, Robert wrote Psalms, Masses, and songs for the liturgy that were both contemporary and prayerful.
And here they are. Songbooks and sheet music can be purchased for every song on the CD by contacting Robert at rmathews75@hotmail.com
The songs run the gambit from high-energy music for gathering ("Enter" and "Gather at the Table")and going forth ("Set the World on Fire" and "Change the World"), to more meditative songs for communion ("True Communion" and "All my Life") and offertory ("Benedicam Dominum" and "Love is Always Waiting for You").
All of the songs have a spiritual message. The band hopes to Change the World . . . one song at a time.
