Details:
Pass the Music On is singer-songwriter Daniel Redwoodâs first solo album, with songs of love and family, friendship and community, and the quest for liberty and justice.
The album also marks the producing debut of noted National Public Radio tunemaker B.J. Leiderman, composer of the theme music heard on NPR's All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Weekend Edition and Car Talk.
For Redwood, singing and songwriting have always been a way to share the joys and struggles of living, speak from the heart and support the causes he believes in.
In the 1970s, he worked as a volunteer with César Chavez and the United Farmworkers Union, and was sent by Chavez on a singing tour around the country, singing at churches, synagogues, union halls, folk festivals, on radio and television, and in countless living rooms. He recorded his early songs on a benefit record for the farmworkers and on Homecoming, an album on Philo Records.
One of his songs from that era, La Lucha Continuará (The Struggle Goes On) was chosen by the Smithsonian Institution in 2000 for inclusion in its collection, Best of Broadside: Anthems of the American Underground, alongside songs by Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger and other leading lights of the folk revival.
In recent years, he has performed at a variety of churches, schools and festivals.
Redwood has been a chiropractor since 1980. He lived and worked in Virginia Beach, Virginia for many years and then moved to the Kansas City area in 2006 to join the faculty at Cleveland Chiropractic College. He practices chiropractic and acupuncture as part of a holistic practice in Overland Park, Kansas and has for three decades been a prolific writer, with commentaries, book reviews, poetry and interviews published in numerous magazines and on his website, www.drredwood.com. He is also the author of three books, most recently Fundamentals of Chiropractic.
He lives in Kansas with his wife, Beth Lily Redwood and their three beloved cats. He also has two children in their 20s. His son Reuben plays guitar on Pass The Music On.
