Details:
David King has had an interest in music as far back as he can remember. âI have a picture that my mom took of me at the piano when I was one year old. She said I would spend lots of time at the keyboard making my own music. I guess my influences would have been Sesame Street and Captain Kangaroo, but it was a startâ. His parents followed up his interest with piano lessons starting at age seven. As his musicianship grew, he added trumpet by the fifth grade. By the time he reached high school, he began playing the slide trombone in the high school jazz band. At this point life was a juggling act of activities between karate, school sports and academic clubs. Continuing to grow his trombone skills (he was a big fan of Oingo Boingo at this point) he earned first chair trombone in the California State Honor Band as a senior and he went on to play for the Tulare County Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. After high school he earned a spot in the Fresno State Jazz Band âAâ. Early in college he began learning to play guitar in the flamenco style under world-renown flamenco guitarist Juan Serrano. It was also at about this time he started to compose his own music to sing to, drawing on the sounds of bands he liked to listen to; The Beatles, The Police, Journey, Simon & Garfunkle, Billy Joel, Yes, Joe Walsh, R.E.M., Supertramp and many others. âAs a kid, I actually grew up listening to a lot of the classic hits of the 50âs, 60âs and 70âs because I drove tractor a good part of the summers on our family raisin farm. The only station I could get on the tractor was one AM station and thatâs what they played.â He and his younger brother Jeff formed their own little two-man band with David writing, playing piano and singing. Jeff would create percussion parts to go with the songs. As time went on, both pursued other career interests outside of music (both finishing graduate school) but never lost their love of music and continued to play and create.

âSame As Yesterdayâ is Davidâs debut album with heavy involvement by Jeff (JT). The inspiration for much of the project was family, friends and relationships. âThe Oneâ is Davidâs thoughts and feelings toward his newly adopted daughter from Korea while âOne Dayâ was written as a wistful observation of how quickly his sons were growing up. Giving a nod to his philosophical side, LâAbri (French for âThe Shelterâ) is a song recognizing the importance of the Dr. Francis Shaeferâs famed Swiss chateau where he lived as a modern day Socrates from the 1950âs through the 1970âs and influenced a generation of important thinkers and philosophers. The last song on the album is âCarrie Annâ which is the only song not written specifically for the project but was instead written and performed for his wife at their wedding reception back in the college days. âI actually wrote most of the lyrics one hot summer night while I was driving tractor on the farm. Iâd go up and down a few rows and when I thought I had a line I would stop and get off the tractor, take a paper out of my pocket and hold it up to the tractor lights to write it out.â David hopes that everyone will enjoy the music as much as he enjoyed writing and recording it and that the lyrics will resonate with listeners for years to come.
