Darin Layne began performing and composing on the piano at age 4 and played cello in New England youth symphonies, and later alto sax, performing jazz in the Boston area while still in elementary school. He later moved to Texas, graduating from the School for the Performing and Visual arts in Houston and earning a bachelor's degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from the University of North Texas.
Darin's strong compositions use a unique approach based on melody, combining elements of many genres including Rock and R&B. His work has been featured on CNBC's program "American Made" and his recordings have been heard in numerous film festivals including Spike and Mikes festival of animation.
An experienced performer, Darin has played thousands of shows across the U.S. and Europe. His debut c.d. "The Fisherman" reflects his originality and versatility in a trio setting. Intended to be a double album, the first half
represents a more introspective "ECM" style, while the
second half brings a more aggressive rock flavor. The entire c.d. was
recorded live with no overdubs, in a trio setting. Darin's live
performance and musical diversity evoke passion and enthusiasm in the
audience. His ability to connect both with his sideman and the
audience is unparalleled, reviewers say.
