The Story Behind the Stories
More laughs and smiles in your family ⦠and thatâs what itâs all about. As the Mayor of Storyville, my job is to inspire children to use their creativity and bring families together. Many teachers and students ask where I get my ideas. Inside the CD is an IDEA MAP, it's a Candyland type experience to show you graphically where my stories come from, until you open your CD enjoy these quick descriptions.
Mayorâs ThemeâThis is my alarm clock. It makes me grab my tie and suspenders to get the day started.
Donât Let Those Chickens Run AwayâWhen I was little, on my Grandpaâs farm (in Arma, Kansas) we had an evil, one-eyed rooster. It would chase me around the barnyard and peck the back pockets on my jeans as I ranâI left the gate open, so I could escape, and was told âDonât Let Those Chickens Run Away.â
The Loneliest CrayonâIn first grade I was so shy nobody knew my name. During a game of Red Rover in gym class, the only two left were me and the kid who wore his pants inside-out to school. This story is dedicated to anyone whoâs ever been picked last in gym class.
The Fish That Didnât Go to SchoolâMy Dad and Uncle Frank always took me on fishing trips. They gave me a candy bar and pop for breakfast once. It was great. We caught a lot of fish. My Mom asked what was the best part of the trip? I said, âEating Mounds Bars and Dr. Pepper for Breakfast!â She yelled at my Dad. This story is dedicated to all teachers and fisherman.
Roompa DoompaâThis is how most of my songs start out, me humming a melody or making noises marching around the kitchen. Try it yourself ⦠you might be surprised.
Kitty DelightâI had a sweet kitty named âStinky.â Who always tried to escape. One day, I left open the door and he got away. Each night I walked around the neighbor hood yelling, âStinky!!!⦠Stinky!!! ⦠Stinky!!!â This songâs dedicated to Stinky.
TrembellonaâMy Nonna (Italian grandmother) used to sing all the time in the kitchen when she was baking biscotti (cookies). She was a little woman who always seemed taller when she sang.
Mouth Tap LIVEâMy tap teacher always would say, youâve got to put more sole into your soulsâ¦tap dancing is about making music with your feet, not noise. You canât tap dance in the car, but anyone can have fun âMouth Tappingâ â¦give it a try!
The Squirrel That SharedâMy Nonno (Italian grandfather) was one of the smartest and most generous people Iâve ever known. And he fed a lot of squirrels. His last name was Buti, so in my story he was âBuddy.â The limping one was meâ¦I used to sprain my ankles a lot.
PeepalotâThere is this little bird inside of us that asks us to keep trying when you feel like quittingâ¦one morning when it happened to me I wrote this story to cheer myself up. Itâs still one of my favorites.
A Gorilla in Loveâ"Love you with all my might, know some times I hug too tight, but what did you expect from a gorilla in love.â I think we've all been a gorilla in love at times. Itâs about a woman who falls in love with a gorilla, then wants to change him. Lots of luck with that!
The Elf In YourselfâWe all need to tune into our inner Elf. That is the little guy inside of you who will always believe in you, no matter what. Youâve got magic inside of you, keep trying. He believes in youâ¦and so do I.
The Redheaded RatâI was thinking ⦠if anyone ever was envious of beautiful hair it would have to be a rat. What could that rat do to get a beautiful head of hair? Answering that question gave me the story.
Meep-Meep Moop-MoopâOne summer night the crickets were so loud, as I sat down to tell my girls their bedtime story all I could think about were crickets. So, I stopped fighting it and âdecided to sing along.â
Let the Music StayâSome schools are cutting their music programs due to budgets, what if the instruments said, âNo!â School bands build confidence in students and create a âCan Doâ do attitude. I pray the music programs can be saved.
And you can check out more Mayor of Storyville fun on youtube. "Have funâ¦be kind to one anotherâ¦be good, and I will be seeing you real soon in Storyville, so long." Kenny Haas #25, Mayor of Storyville
