Music arranged and mixed by Susan Collins and Art Labriola, recorded at Fourth Hole Studio, Garrison, NY. Launch party/release of 11-track enhanced CD (with video) December 20, 2011 at Iguana, NYC.
Artist's statement:
"Ever since childhood, I have always found ways to express myself through music. Four years ago, when I was diagnosed with epilepsy, music became a healing sanctuary. This project is a labor of love that I dedicate to all those who struggle with an ongoing diagnosis that can affect their daily lives and can strike at any moment. A portion of the proceeds from this CD will be donated to researchers working to find a cure for epilepsy.
"I thank my family for all of their love and enthusiastic support â especially my mother, Robin Stern, my sister Melissa Mannis, and my stepfather Frank Moretti. I thank my grandparents, Edith and Dave Mannis, for their encouragement and support through the years; and my grandmother, Roz Stern, for âdiscoveringâ my voice and introducing me to the world of Frank Sinatra when I was 14.
"This project would not have happened without the talent, patience and generosity of my mentor, teacher, vocal coach, and music/video producer Susan Collins and music co-producer Art Labriola. For the video, I offer my deepest gratitude to my friend, the director, producer and visionary cinematographer Horacio Marquínez. For the graphic art work, a big thank you to the wonderfully creative Ula Hedwig. For production and digital details, I thank the brilliant and generous Andy Caploe. Last, but not least, I thank Hillary Kooistra, featured dancer in the video for Angel in the Red Dress.
"I hope that listening to these recordings and watching the video will give you as much pleasure as it did for me to make them."

24-year old SCOTT MANNIS studies physical oceanography and evolutionary anthropology at Columbia University; over and above an imposing course load, he conducts independent theoretical research in the field of astrophysics. But his great passion lies outside his challenging academic life: Scott loves to sing. And, as in his intellectual pursuits, Scott doesnât let his four-year-old diagnosis with a rare form of epilepsy stop him from chasing his musical dream.
Since the age of 11, when he joined the internationally renowned Young Peopleâs Chorus of New York City, Scott has performed as a soloist and ensemble member for a variety of philanthropic causes at venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and Columbia University. Inspired by first hearing Frank Sinatra at age 14, even as he explored studies in science, choral repertoire, and opera, Scott nurtured a deep desire to become a crooner. The recording ANGEL IN THE RED DRESS represents a culminating milestone in the road to that dream, accomplished through protracted hard work with ASCAP Award-winning songwriter and veteran gold and platinum singer Susan Collins, with whom Scott began private vocal coaching a few years back. Collins, who has sung with everyone from Jimi Hendrix, The Electric Light Orchestra, Kiss, and John Lennon to Saturday Night Live, Brian Wilson, Paul Davis, and Todd Rundgren, began producing a series of recording sessions with Scott at the studio of Grammy and Emmy Award-winning producer-writer Art Labriola. The trio knew they had come up with something special. Throughout Scottâs various struggles with his medical condition and ambitious scientific studies, Collins and Labriola soldiered on with the project, whose release marks a major achievement in a labor of love. Along the way, Collins brought in longtime collaborators like guitarist Jack Cavari and Ula Hedwig, who not only sang backgrounds with Collins for the recording but also did the graphic design for the CD release. Deep into the recording process, Collins called on her old friend, multi-platinum producer/remixer Michael Barbiero and set him loose on her and Labriolaâs unique arrangement of Scottâs rendition of the classic doowop tear jerker, Earth Angel, which is included as a bonus dance mix audio track on ANGEL IN THE RED DRESS.
The enhanced CD features the spectacular music video of the Mannis-Collins-Labriola original ANGEL IN THE RED DRESS, which features dancer Hillary Kooistra and is directed by Scottâs longtime friend, the visionary cinematographer Horacio Marquínez. Shot guerilla style in the Riverdale train station of the Harlem-Hudson line, just around the corner from where Scott lives, the video captures a special afternoon in June 2011.
Shortly after leaving high school, Scott began to struggle with an unknown condition that caused him to fall several times a day. Three years and countless medical tests later Scott was diagnosed with a rare kind of epilepsy, where he periodically suffers paralysis over half his body. For three years prior to his diagnosis, and for months at a time since then, Scott is occasionally afflicted to such a degree that he cannot walk across a room without falling, or even stand without holding onto something or someone. Obviously, epilepsy interferes in Scottâs life. Yet, like other people who live with chronic disease, he is one of the lucky ones who have found a way to control their conditions, thanks to diligent researchers and new medications. And, remarkably, Scott does not have seizures when he sings. Music has always been a healing force for Scott; it gives him joy and hope when sometimes hope is hard to come by.
Scott is committed to contributing to epilepsy research, and has become involved with CURE, Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy. He intends to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of ANGEL IN THE RED DRESS to support researchers working to find a cure.

SUSAN COLLINS (Music/Video Co-Producer, arranger/background singer)
began her professional career in 1966 at the Cafe Wha? in Greenwich Village singing with Jimmy James and the Blue Flames, led by Jimi Hendrix, the ground-breaking guitaristâs group just before he left NYC for London. Then a sophomore straight out of Brooklynâs Lafayette High School, Susan was managed by singer/songwriter Richie Havens, with whom she later attended Woodstock, flying in by helicopter. In 2011 Susanâs close friend and musical director of 35 years, Paul Shaffer called her âmy BFF and a singerâs singer - what a voice!â In 2006 Susan sang a song she co-wrote with Paul, on a bill with Harry Shearer, Marshall Crenshaw, and They Might Be Giants at NYCâs Canal Room. Of this performance, Fox News.comâs Roger Friedman wrote: âCollins is terrific. She can hold her own with Ronnie Spector any day of the week.â Susan appeared with Spector, Leslie Gore, Lala Brooks et. al. at Lincoln Centerâs SHEâS GOT THE POWER tribute to NYC Girl Groups in the summer of 2011. For the 2011 season Susan and Faith Hill are the lead solo voices of the NFL image advertising.
YOU CAN TAKE THE GIRL OUTTA BROOKLYN, Susanâs autobiographical musical revue, tells the story of how she started singing a cappella on the street corner of her housing project in the 1960s and went on to a career in the music business, making key vocal contributions to numerous hit records, TV shows, and movies .
Recipient of the ASCAP Award for songwriting, one of Susanâs first day jobs was writing for legendary producer/TV host, the late Don Kirshner, whose Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony she attended June 2007. She has numerous gold records to her name, writing, singing, and/or recording with Leon Russell in Joe Cockerâs Mad Dogs and Englishmen (âThe Letterâ) 1970, Todd Rundgren ("Hello It's Me") 1972, Rita Coolidge and Kris Kristoffersen 1972, The New Riders of the Purple Sage 1975-6, Electric Light Orchestra (âEvil Womanâ/âStrange Magicâ) 1975-6, Luther Vandross 1976-7, Cissy Houston 1977, John Lennon 1977, Odyssey (âNative New Yorkerâ) 1977, Paul Davis (on their #1 hit song "Sweet Life" later covered by Marie Osmond) 1977, Kiss (Ace Frehleyâs "New York Groove") 1978, and Kiki Dee (âStay With Me Babyâ) 1979. A veteran of National Lampoonâs Radio Hour (singing Christopher Guestâs âKung Fu Christmasâ 1975), Susan was vocal coordinator on the first several seasons of Saturday Night Live (NBC) 1976-1980, singing, co-composing, and/or arranging, among other material, Martin Mullâs Emmy Award-winning âSuzy Forgives Pattyâ (Hearst) and âJewess Jeansâ (lip-synched by her friend Gilda Radner, now part of the permanent collection of the Jewish Museum, NYC) with the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players Dan Akroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Bill Murray, and Larraine Newman, as well as comedy and musical guests including Monty Pythonâs Eric Idle, Roberta Flack, Phoebe Snow, and Brian Wilson. A regular collaborator at SNL was composer, arranger, multiple Oscar winner Howard Shore (Lord of the Rings).
Collins notably appeared in the Grand Ballroom of New Yorkâs Waldorf-Astoria with Dick Van Dyke and Judd Hirsch at the world premiere of the Nick at Night Orchestra 1995. She has performed numerous times on Late Night (NBC) and Late Show (CBS) with David Letterman, backing such artists as Neil Diamond 2000, Jackie Chan 2003, and Darlene Love 2000-10. She numbers among her good friends and collaborators the legendary Ellie Greenwich (writer/producer with Phil Spector of âLeader of the Pack,â âBe My Baby,â âChapel of Love,â âDo Wah Diddy,â and âDa Doo Ron Ronâ) at whose tribute she sang at Lincoln Center in 2011, singer Ula Hedwig (original Broadway production of Hair and long-time member of Bette Midlerâs backing group The Harlettes), and folkie comedian David Buskin (of Buskin & Batteau). Susan proudly sang in a benefit for Hurricane Katrina victims with Tom Chapin.
Susanâs Screen Actors Guild credits include on-camera work at New Yorkâs fabled Bottom Line in the film Boardwalk with Lee Strasberg and Ruth Gordon 1979, original songs for Warriors with George C. Scott 1979, AM radio hit singer (songs by Fountains of Wayneâs Adam Schlesinger) in That Thing You Do (produced by Jonathan Demme, directed by and starring Tom Hanks) 1996, and featured on the soundtrack for Doctor Evil and Frau Farbissinaâs conjugal visit in Mike Myersâs Austin Powers Goldmember 2002. Her voice has been heard for years in advertising jingles, from Capri Sun, Folgerâs, Toyota, Cheerios, and Fruit of the Loom (1970s and 80s) to Shower to Shower and Chips Ahoy! (1990s) to HBOâs Sex and the City and the New York Yankees (2000s).
Susan has become an acclaimed private vocal coach and mentor to young and developing musical talent. She teaches a series of master classes at Actors Technique New York (at Pearl Studio) with amateurs and professionals appearing in commercials, TV, film, and Broadway.
Susan debuted as SHOSHANA CAPLOE in 2003 with the CD ONE MITZVAH AT A TIME about her life as a Jewish woman. She is married to voice over artist Andy Caploe and the mother of emerging singer songwriter Tucker.

ART LABRIOLA (music co-producer) has been playing piano for as long as he can remember. He likes to say that he pursued a music career simply because it was the path of least resistance.
Born in Manhattan he began formal classical study at the age of four- appearing on radio by the age of ten. After several years of intensive study he abandoned music to make time for a normal adolescence.
It wasn't until later, as an exchange student in London, that he rediscovered the passion of musical performance in the West End jazz scene. He soon set off to master the art of improvisation. After graduating from Amherst College, he moved to New York City to study with noted jazz players Walter Bishop Jr., Hal Galper, Lou Stein, and Andy Laverne. Nights were spent taking courses in composition at the Manhattan School of Music and the Mannes School of Music.
Soon Art was touring Europe and Asia as a pianist, keyboard player and musical director-- most notably with The Deep River Boys, an African American singing trio performing forgotten spirituals and obscure jazz pieces. He also toured extensively with The Elliot Murphy Band.
He eventually discovered the recording studio and began and continues his career in film scoring, commercial recording and record production. In that time Art has won a Grammy, an Emmy and a Clio award. He has worked with noted documentary film directors including Barbara Kopple, Joe Lovett, Rob Fruchtman, Lisa Jackson and Civia Tamarkin. For many years Art worked and collaborated with Tom Pomposello with whom he also toured and co-created the group Oil Can.
Today he continues to perform, compose and produce music in his studio located in the scenic Hudson Valley of New York. He created the CD "Winter Day" playing piano while gazing out his window at the white winter landscape. He has also released a Christmas album of familiar songs played in the same contemplative spirit as âWinter Dayâ.
For Art, music has no end to its discovery. It is the pursuit of this discovery that pushes him forward -- to create new musical directions for himself and his audience.
MICHAEL BARBIERO (Producer/Engineer of EARTH ANGEL DANCE REMIX for SCOTT MANNIS) began his career in the music business in 1971 as an apprentice engineer at Mediasound Studios in New York City immediately upon receiving his BA in psychology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He did east coast A&R and staff production for Paramount Records under Tony Martell from 1972 to 1974, signing the sixteen-year old singing sensation, Stephanie Mills, to her first recording contract and producing the Grammy award nominated soundtrack album for the motion picture, âSerpicoâ. From 1975 to 1982 he specialized in dance remixing: Dan Hartmanâs âVertigo Relight My Fireâ, Gonzalesâ âI Havenât Stopped Dancinâ Yetâ, The Jacksonsâ âBlame It On the Boogieâ, Jackie Mooreâs âThis Time, This Time Babyâ and other tracks by Madonna, Whitney Houston, Tears for Fears, Talk Talk, Lionel Ritchie and Earth Wind and Fire are among his many successful dance remixes.
Teaming up with Steve Thompson in 1984, Michael went on to produce three multi-platinum albums for Tesla, a six times platinum, Grammy award winning album for Blues Traveler, a Grammy award winning album by Ziggy Marley and many other assorted platinum recordings. His mix credits include Guns and Rosesâ âAppetite for Destructionâ, Metallicaâs âAnd Justice For Allâ, Maroon 5âs âHarder to Breatheâ, John Lennonâs âMilk and Honeyâ, Journey, The Scorpions, Anthrax, The Rolling Stones, The Velvet Underground, The Counting Crows, and numerous others. His production collaboration of ten years with Warren Haynes produced six studio albums and five live albums for Govât Mule as well the Allman Brothersâ 2003 Grammy-nominated album âHittinâ The Noteâ and their 2004 Grammy-nominated live album âNo Escapeâ.
In all, Michael has been a part of making numerous albums that have won or been nominated for Grammy awards, the latest being the 2010 Grammy Award win by Buckwheat Zydeco in the Best Cajun/Zydeco Album category, for which he co-wrote the album's title song, "Lay Your Burden Down." This is the fifteenth Grammy nomination for a project Michael has worked as producer, engineer, arranger, mixer or writer in genres ranging from pop, to rock, dance, alternative, metal, reggae, Zydeco, Broadway cast albums and film soundtracks.
