Singers in Accord with J.D. Steele: Ignite the Spirit (2011)
An inspiring collection of gospel, folk, pop and R&B choral arrangements by J. D. Steele performed by Twin Cities based Singers in Accord - singing messages of peace, love and hope in a live recording of their 2011 benefit concert for the Shangilia Youth Choir of Kenya. Featured guest musicians include: Fred Steele, and students from the MacPhail Community Youth Choir and Suzuki String Ensemble from the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, MN.
Your spirit will be energized with the rhythms of âBrazilian Rhymeâ and the Doobie Brothers classic âTaking It to the Streets,â led on vocals by J.D and Fred Steele. The gospel harmonies of âHold On,â âHe Will See You Through,â and âBe Grateful,â will warm the heart and soothe the soul. This album also features two traditional Swahili chants and a stirring original composition by J.D. Steele titled âLove as One.â This recording is enhanced by the amazing talents of bassist Yohannas Tonas, percussionist Kenyari Jackson and pianist Bill Munson.
Singers in Accord is uniquely organized as a singer-led, choral ensemble dedicated to exploring our humanity through performances of culturally diverse choral music. The group collaborates with a new conductor, performing artist, or artistic ensemble in each concert to create distinctive concert experiences for its singers and audience members. Singers in Accord strives to enrich the cultural life of Minnesota communities through outreach, education and innovative performances. J. D. Steele and his dynamic musical siblings, The Steeles, have been a fixture in the Minnesota music scene since the mid- 1980âs, touring internationally and garnering many major music awards and accolades including J.D.âs Emmy nomination for the PBS version of âGospel at Colonus.â J. D. has produced, performed and recorded on countless albums with the likes of Prince, George Clinton, Mavis Staples, Kim Carnes, The Sounds of Blackness and many more. He has established himself as a sought-after songwriter and composer. He has been commissioned for and collaborated on many original musicals and was honored with a Bush Artist Composer Fellowship in 2003. J.D. has also taught and developed music workshop curricula across the U.S. for K-12 students as well as university music programs.
