The name "Dear (Your Name Here)" reflects the personal level on which the songs are written, generally as a message directed at a single person, but intended to have application in many lives. The band's goal is to connect with people on a truly personal level, having a positive impact on the lives of people around the world. Sincerity is at the core of the writing; deep thoughts from a deep mind.

In July 2006, Dear (Your Name Here) headed to Winterland Studios in Minneapolis, MN, with producer Brian Johnson (Coldplay, Life House, Elvis Costello) to record their debut CD. The album features 10 intricately scribed, acoustic-based tracks written by Joel French.

Joel began his pursuit of a music career back in 2000 with his first band, Both Legs Broken as a bass player, songwriter, and lead vocalist. In 2004 the band parted ways, but a few months later, Joel joined a local emo/screamo band known as Farsighted as an electric guitarist and backup vocalist. He continued with his songwriting and soon became the lead vocalist of Farsighted,. The band toured full time for 4 months in 2005 and gained much respect among peers and fans across Canada. In 2006, Joel decided to pursue a new style of music in the form of an acoustic solo project entitled "Dear (Your Name Here)", a band that would effectively bring together all of his talents developed from previous projects. In fact, the band's debut record includes a new version of one track from each of his previous projects ("Fade Away" from Both Legs Broken and "Now Or Nothing" from Farsighted).
