"When They Were Young" was inspired by a trip with my father, a B-24 tailgunner during WWII, to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorial there. It was with a group of other WWII veterans, sponsored by a great organization, Forever Young Senior Wish, located in Collierville, TN. The trip was a very poignant and moving experience, seeing how appreciative complete strangers were of this group of brave men, most of whom lost close friends during the war. I also put together a slide show with this song which you can see on You Tube.
