Bobby Allen Rhodes, Sr. was born February 11, 1961 in Alexandria, Louisiana. At the age of 12, he became interested in music and taught himself to play the guitar. Note for note, he learned the songs of the great jazz guitarists Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, and George Benson. Eventually his own unique style of playing emerged. In high school, Bobby played the guitar in the jazz stage band, later top 40 bands, as well as jazz combos while in college. Jazz influenced but gospel inspired, Bobby Rhodes has come into his own as a major gospel jazz artist. The Ministry of Jazz, his first debut CD, is an instrumental gospel/jazz work comprised of seven gospel favorites performed in traditional acoustic jazz style. On live dates, his repertoire includes tunes from the CD as well as interpretations of jazz standards. Over the years, Bobby Rhodes has become a locally well-known and respected guitarist, composer, producer and vocalist. With a loyal following of supporters and listeners like you, other projects will soon to follow.
