Dive emerged from the Manhattan, KS music scene as much through their outrageous live performances as on the strength of their geek-rock songwriting. Though the two may not be mutually exclusive, Dive aims for you to lower your guard, strip you down to your undies and sing along with their shenanigans. And maybe do their math homework for them, too.
Dive requires you to move your ego out of the way, and they do so for you in return. Most often described as playful, they chart a course to keep their music relevant through time and genre by avoiding trendy categorizations such as post-grunge and emo, and stick with the less reveled but timeless label of glam.
Though they receive criticism for their crazy live covers of 80âs artists such as Rick James and the Pretenders, they more than make up for it with their on-stage presence with props such as lamps, suitcases and fog machines.
Dive has not only been heavily influenced by the prairie pop sounds of bands like Wilco and Truck Stop Love, but also by the music of the local scene including Kill Creek, Frogpond and Ruskabank. The band was initially bifurcated through two side projects: Jason Barth, Preston Barton and Mike Laurie in Diving Euphoria and Vince Cook, Mark Moessner, Kurt Ohlenbusch, and Travis Say in Mohley. They later focused their conglomerate of sounds to the luscious music to which they are known for today.
