ROCK: Modern Rock, POP: Quirky
Details:
The DNA Vibrators are veterans of the Southern Illinois University (SIU) music scene, in Carbondale, Illinois. Comprised of The DNA Vibrator on bass, vocals, drum sequencing, and guitars, The Hand of God Attachment on lead guitar, and AfroDJYak on drums, this side project gone awry packed clubs wherever they went in the 1990's, but dropped off the map in 1995. The DNA Vibrator had not stopped making music; it had simply burrowed underground to allow some ideas to ferment. In 2004, The DNA Vibrators returned for a live show that proved the old guys still had it. In September of 2006, recording began on a new project. By January, 2007, the project had reached the right proof. And here it is.
AfroDJYak might be known to some of you as a former member of the Blue Meanies, and current drummer of the Chicago noise outfit, Nonagon. The Hand of God Attachment is a classically trained guitarist who had an incident with a priest---Judas Priest, that is! The DNA Vibrator is the brains of this whole operation, which explains the level of worldwide success and adoration achieved by the band in the 12 short years they have been together.
The songs run the gamut from the personal to the public, the silly to the sublime. There's a little something for everyone who likes to have their alternative rock served unpretentiously with a little wit and midwestern twang on the side.
The name DNA Vibrators has much less to do with a sex toy and much more to do with the apparent dichotomy that a person's biological imperative to, uh, you know, and a mechanical device's ability to achieve the, uh, goal, of the biological imperative, well... how these things come together, and then how things get sticky, and...anyway, how biological need and mechanical whim produce the same response...is kind of weird, when you think about it. That's the idea the DNA Vibrators is going for: Kind of weird, when you think about it.
Much more could be written in this bio, but instead of wasting another moment on my opinion, listen to some of the tracks presented here and form your own. If you like what you hear, buy it. Then, the songs are yours to annoy your friends with. Buy multiple copies and receive a discount. If you want to know more about The DNA Vibrators, or hire them for your next bar mitsvah or rennaisance fair, or figure out where they fit in to the Carbondale music scene, please visit www.the-dna-vibrator.com, The Shape Of Things To Have Come And Gone. Listen to old songs, read the blog, the comic book! and so much more!
