Description:

(ID 1600442)
Great (did we mention 100 homemade) debut album. With every note written and recorded at home, this is a true inspiration to those wanting to try their hand at bedroom pop. Strongly recommended for those who like Lo-Fi, quirky, DIY pop music.

Details:
Great (did we mention 100 homemade) debut album. Remember when you first heard an album like "Hour of Bewilderbeast" by Badly Drawn Boy, Fi by Bibio, or All-Time Quarterback by Ben Gibbard? Remember thinking that you stumbled on a gem of an album, both lo-fi, yet totally emcompassing and charming, and you had it ALL to yourself? Yeah, it's kind of like that, especially considering Doron is all but completely unknown. No hype here, just a solid (and seriously good) listen. A true DIY inspiration for any of us who treat music like a serious hobby. Strongly recommended.

Doron Diamond is a self-taught, multi-instrumental psychologist-singer-songwriter-arranger-composer-trapeze-
visual-stimulant-cognitive-artist. He plays no less than 39 different instruments, and is proficient in musical styles from 17 different cultures. While perfectly capable of singing in six different languages, both forwards and backwards, Doron prefers to sing in mathematics. "I find the most fun I have playing music is when I challenge myself with limitations. Mathematical limitations to be more precise. For instance, only writing songs in prime-number rhythms, such as 11/7 timing, is a particularly fun one. I try to avoid using the letters f, q and y in any of my songs. It forces me to focus on the psychology of songwriting rather than the commercial aspects. I'll set an entire piece to the rhythm of a pigeon's wing-flap. Rhythm and art is everywhere. Next time you brush your teeth, do it to a beat in your head. Bam, hygene-rock." Dabbling in sine-waves, oscillators, and harmonics since the age of 4, Doron was always a natural experimenter. His first (un)release was a tribute to the 17 annual Jewish Holidays. "It was just a way of getting the attention of relatives and friends, really. They weren't all that enthusiastic about any of my noise-experiments or casio-concertos, so I had to grab their attention some other way." He began working on his next endeavour after enlisting the help of ace session-musicians Daniel Foruzon and Michael Cole. "We called ourselves "Ben Beard and the Creepy Dear. Michael Cole was a fantastic Slide player. He refused to play in anything other than Open C-6th tuning, but he got the most wonderful sounds out of his guitar. Very dissonant, drone-like tones. Just haunting. Dan was one of those naturally inquizative, naturally gifted minds. He had his first Moog Synthisizer at the age of 7, and was learning the ins-and-outs of LFO Depth and Semitones ever since. His contributions were vital to the warm, hypnotic sounds of my second album. He is a great, great piano player." Doron's second unreleased as of yet album, "The Triangle Chokes the Horse" was an ecclectic album featuring Nomadic-Jazz, Mute-Folk and Psychosis-Spoken-Word. Unfortunately, only the lyrics to this much sought after rarity are available, as the master tape was crushed and destroyed in a car accident. Eventually, Doron would go on to Santa Cruz CA, where he would take part in what proved to be the most influential movement of his musical career thus far. "I started playing in coffee house, libraries, salvation armies, soup-kitches, greyhounds, whatever I could get. It was only until Stevenson's Open Mic night that I had my first real musical epiphany. It was there that I saw act after act fabricating story after story, lie after lie, all for the benefit of the song. It was as if I had heard Bob Dylan, Brian Eno, Malcom X, Ravi Shankar, John Cage, Stephen Foster, Blind Eddie Jones, and the entire Carter Family all at once. Growing up in Beverly Hills doesn't provide one with any of the natural, more typical themes prevelant in most songwriting today. I had no grief or tradgedy in my life, and it just wasn't fair! My parents were still together, I had a great upbringing, I loved and cared for my two sisters dearly, and I had all the security and safety one could ask for. Even worse, money for expensive gear and equipment was never a problem. I had always felt as though I were a phony in the sea of absolute honest/modesty known as "confessional songwriting." From that moment on, Doron stuck to his guns and swore to never make anything less than 100 genuine again. It was through this epiphany that he accidently stumbled upon a new genre of music: "Genuine-pop." Doron hopes to work with anyone and everyone who is willing to take part and stand tall. The spirit of the collaboration is holy in the book of Double D, and he extends his hand and his heart to anyone from the past, present, or future willing/wanting to record and exchange ideas. "My goal is to have a homemade-label in which everyone I knew at some point or another- even if only in passing- plays/records at least one piece of music. It doesn't matter if they possess technical know-how, or actual 'ability'. In fact, the less they know, the better, as one tends to get jaded and close-minded with each new chord and note learned. So I invite you all, my friends! Come! Play! Rejoice! Spoken word, the fork and spoon, beat-boxing, tap dance percussion, ocarina, video-game-midi, poetry, photo-music, tibetan chants, morsecode, blues dirges, and sonic-landscapes are all welcome and encouraged on my label. This is a label run by friends, made for friends. Chances are if I've known you, I want to create with you. So please, as shy as we human beings all are, I ask, no, I URGE you, to contact me with a song in your heart and an idea in your head. Together, we can make a change." I welcome, encourage, and am extremely thankful for any and all comments about the music/anything else you might want to say. Really, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart...thanks.
