Released by Little Diablo Music on August 21, 2006, Something For The Pain⦠is the extraordinary debut album by Doc Span, the collaborative project which fuses the talents of the charismatic 21st Century blues singer Doc Span and maverick multi-instrumentalist/ producer Matthew Cang.

Gritty, lyrical, groove-laden, with roots in the blues, Something For The Pain⦠consists of 11 original compositions which blow boundaries at every turn.

UK-based Matthew - whose track record extends from teenage membership of the late-period Sensational Alex Harvey Band to his current status as a highly respected soundtrack writer and producer of library music for TV and film - first encountered Doc on a trip to Queensland, Australia in 2003.

Doc arrived in Australia several years ago via a route filled with adventures. Having been discharged from the US Navy, he originally made Chicago his home, working as a paramedic at the notorious Cook County Jail. This not only afforded a wealth of life-changing experiences, but has also inspired tracks on Something For The Pain⦠The album sleeve-notes also contain a revealing and tragic-comic essay providing an insight to his time at the correctional facility.

The music was created under circumstances as unusual and engaging as the individuals involved. Writing and recording took place on Doc's back porch in the middle of Queensland rain forest, and were completed at Matthewâs studio in rural Somerset, UK.

Something For the Pain⦠is not like music you will hear anywhere else. It's blues, Jim, but not as we know it.
