A marvelous homage to the best 70's synthesizer groups, Elysium is the brainchild of producer Rutger Holst, who is joined by David Gerard and Paul Christensen. Perfect music for meditation and relaxation 8 MP3 Songs ELECTRONIC: Ambient, NEW AGE: Meditation Details: What we have humbly attempted to do on this recording is resurrect the concept of the "synthesizer ensemble", popularized by such bands as Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Co. and Popul Vuh. Each member brought an original composition to the table (in David's case, two) while the other pieces became collaborative efforts by the ensemble as a whole. Wherever possible, we have utilized vintage (read:old) synthesizers and sequencers, and many of the basic tracks were recorded via analogue versus digital means. This was not a ploy for preciousness: Rutger and the rest of us believe analogue will always hold the warmer sound, and we are willing to put up with the occasional tape ambience to achieve the desired end result. The tracks were then digitally mastered - in some cases the incidental tape ambience was left in, a process mutually agreed upon. Even the cover (designed by Dave) gives the album the look of some lost chestnut of electronic arcana. Working on this debut deep in the Vermont countryside also contributed to the music's organic, flowing quality - as evidenced by the opening track "Awaken", which was literally inspired by an early morning sunrise. We feel this recording is one for the time capsule: a sonic snapshot of a classic point in musical history, and the beginning of what he hope to be a collective body of work which not only explores the possibilities of the electronic medium, but in some small yet significant way, manages to transcend it as well. - Paul Christensen in partnership with CDbaby User tags: Votes: Reviews: Review it!
