Escort was formed in early 2005 by Dan Balis, Eugene Cho, and Darius Maghen out of a desire to bring detail, depth, and perhaps most of all, the R&B songwriting tradition, back to underground dance music. Some may find their records shamelessly nostalgic: a blast of unadulterated disco that invites comparison to the quirky pop of Kid Creole, the mechanical funk of Gino Soccio, and the symphonic disco compositions of Rinder and Lewis. But for the members of Escort, this is not about the past. This is about a fervent belief that certain things are timeless: musicianship, songwriting, and production. No samples, no loops, just well crafted songs and great performances.

A Bright New Life (âakarui seikatsuâ) is the latest disco anthem from Brooklynâs Escort. Itâs a sardonic take on getting ahead, featuring Zena Kittâs powerful lead vocals, a horn section led by Jon Natchez, strings by Caleb Burhans, and absolutely massive drums and percussion by Ernesto Abreau, Chauncey Yearwood, and Ben Herson. Features two additional edits for DJs, including one by Metro Areaâs Morgan Geist. The flip, All That She Is, is synthesizer-driven, cinematic late-night disco. Itâs quixotic falsetto refrain will delight and perplex listeners.
