URBAN/R&B: Funk, URBAN/R&B: R&B Pop Crossover
Details:
Greetings music lovers!!! Old School Potpourri written and recorded by Franklin Thompson (aka, Francois Ja'boi) is one of the most innovative albums to come out of the Midwest in years. It is a collection of the best original songs written by Thompson over the 1980-2007 time period.
Old School Potpourri is the first installment of the Selah Sound Old School Collector's series. It is a unique and infectious mixture of R&B, Funk, Pop, and Rock music styles set against varied lyrical themes. In addition to its educational value, Old School Potpourri is just plain good music to party to.
The album also introduces the Selah Sound, a new genre of music first created by the artist in the mid 1970s. Although one can easily hear traces of Sly Stone, Larry Graham, George Clinton, David Bowie, and Sting when listening to Thompsonâs original songs, he was able, nonetheless, to extend past those influences and create a whole new sound which is distinctly his own (for further details on the genre, see write-up for the "Back In The Day" project).
Hit songs are plentiful on this album; consumers easily get their money's worth. If love and relationships are your thing, you will like the cuts entitled: Stress Reliever, Never Give Up, No Man Is An Island, Do You Care For Me, and Gypsy Girl. If dealing with urban & social problems are your thing, enjoy these tunes: Better Way, Planet Jumper, Epiphany, and Skin Deep. And if you just want to dance and blow off steam, try: Mega Mix, and Digital Funk. The song entitled "Rainy Eyes" provides a nice intrumental piece that rounds out the entire project.
In addition, the cut entitled "Mega Mix" was the first original rap song written by a Nebraksan that received radio airplay back in 1981. This is a small, but important part of the innovation-legacy of the artist.
We, at Titus-Vision Records, sincerely believe that Potpourri is bound to became a national and international collector's piece. Its strong attention to chord structure, music innovation, and lyrical content put it in the top 20 of independent artist music ever written. Several of the songs are bound to become instant classics. Buy your CD now before limited copies of this ground breaking album quickly disappear. . . .
One day the Selah Sound will become an international craze. It may happen during the originatorâs lifetime, or perhaps long after he is gone. When it does, artists and musicians will be able to reach back into time and see that its roots began in Omaha, NE by an unassuming yet dedicated songwriter named Franklin Thompsonâa man who had an unwavering commitment to bettering his community through the power of music. The Selah Sound is original, reflective, restorative, and healing. Long live the Selah Sound!
