ROCK: Americana, ROCK: Acoustic
Details:
YOUR BIG NIGHT OUT is really a concert or event, with Friends & Consequences performing a mix of contemporary, traditional, instrumental and singer-songwriter material. Acoustic and Americana music fans can listen to this CD and feel completely entertained and satisfied, like you do with a good live show. There's variety to keep things fresh and a sense of drama to keep things interesting.
As an example, think of Mermaid Avenue with Billy Bragg, Wilco and Natalie Merchant. Also, The Traveling Wilburys with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. Or The Band's The Last Waltz. Or going further back, Old & In The Way with Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, Vassar Clements and Peter Rowan.
The CD was produced, recorded and manufactured with listeners in mind - sharing a lot of music (over 78 minutes), a lot of ear candy.
Friends & Consequences is an ensemble and collaboration. Our co-producer, recording engineer and George Martin-like collaborator is multi-platinum engineer David Vartanian (David Arkenstone, Violent Femmes, Live, Talking Heads). Equally important collaborators include punk-folk poet Christian Anderson (Dolphins In Disguise); singer-pianist and folk diva Patty Stevenson; storied crooner and mandolin love-maker Keith Marx; guitar and dobro phenom Peter Roller (Paul Cebar & The Milwaukeeans, Narada Records release Masters of The Acoustic Guitar); fiddler and Contra dance band leader Maria Terres-Sandgren (The Last Gaspè); mutant lounge lizard Steve "Piano Man" Hall (Tall Saul & The Astrals); Victor DeLorenzo on drums and backing vocals, and multi-instrumentalist Brian Ritchie on flute (both from Violent Femmes). Also rocking the recording are internationally recognized luthier and guitarist Denny Rauen (Guitar Player magazine); New Zealand native, shaman and mystic marvel John England; human jukebox Greg Driss; quiet-types Joe Goodrich and Dave Aiello on acoustic and bass guitar respectively; and, musical changeling Paul Terrien (Binky Tunny & The Farmland Chokehold) on classical guitar. Speaking of instruments classical, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra first violinists Tim Klabunde, Michael Giacobassi and Sang Shen form a string section along with Present Music violist Brek Renzelman and cellist Karl Lavine; in arrangements by producer-composer Larry Moore. Then there's banjo renegade, visionary Colin O'Brien (Salt Creek); award-winning mountain dulcimer tickler Joseph T. Ruback (Hawaiian Hillbillies); accordion giant Michael J. Dombrowski; percussionists Abdur Ahmad, Carlo Albano, Murad Alhakimi and Chris Purdy; sound designer Ray Fister (5th Floor Recording Co.) Grammy-nominated mastering engineer Trevor Sadler (Tony Levin, Narada Records); graphic designers Eric Nelson and Norman Design; webmeister Fred Eisenhauer; and Tom Purdy - co-producer, contributor and manager of the understatement department.
