On the heels of releasing of a collection of demos called âBring Me Blueâ less than 6 months ago, the Nashville based singer/songwriter, Freddy Mullins, returns to release his debut full length album, âEverything In Betweenâ. The new album contains 10 songs that continue the refusal by Mullins to be contained to a specific musical genre which he clearly established on âBring Me Blue.â However, thatâs where the similarities between these two albums virtually end. If âBring Me Blueâ had Mullins off and running with his own unique sound, then âEverything In Betweenâ has him in a dead sprint.

On Everything In Between, Mullins elects to produce the album entirely on his own instead of collaborating as he had previously done. An ambitious gamble for a debut release, yet, this decision clearly forced Mullins to push his vision and unique sound to the fullest. The result is a highly textured and atmospheric performance that drips with an emotional, melodic, and spiritual richness. Fortunately, the album doesnât fall into the trap of relying more on a blend of attitude and atmosphere than songwriting as the maturation in Mullins' songwriting is equal to the growth of his sound. The opening track, âCrossroadsâ, is a perfect example of this as the songâs textures pulls you in immediately with a gentle guitar, warm strings, and an atmospheric piano creating a wonderland of beautiful, but uncertain, ambiance. Finally after nearly 2 minutes of musical build up, the lyrics âRed rose stuck me again, and red blood shows where I have beenâ set up a story of decisions to be made and in the end, apathy towards them. Equally impressive in the production of the album is Mullins' confidence to forgo production and embrace the power of simplicity in a song, as he does in the beautifully hushed acoustic only track, "Breathless".

As the albumâs name implies, the songs on the album run you through the gauntlet of emotions including life, love, and loss. As he also established on âBring Me Blueâ, Mullinsâ writing is once again delivered without reserve as he boldly and unapologetically wears his heart on his sleeve. The standout songs on the album that perfectly mesh all the elements together are the beautiful ballad âMeant to Flyâ, the lone love song âLost For Wordsâ, the fun and charismatic âButterflyâ, and the indy rock styled âPaper Thinâ.

In the end, this album has captured the heart, soul, and imagination of an up and coming singer/songwriter. From a run with the EP to a dead sprint with âEverything In Betweenâ, we can only expect Freddy Mullins to be in full flight very soon.
