Once in a while a singer comes along that makes you stop what you're doing and listen. There's one on this CD. His name? Gary Hendrickson. Classically trained but sings
from the heart with a tear in his voice. He nails each note, his phrasing expands the meaning of a word with another level of subtext. High C, no problem lower D, same.
On the first cut "In Love Again", it's plaintive. Why is this happening to me again? Damn, I just went through it, but I'm willing to do it again and once you listen to his vocal, you want to as well. The thing about Gary is how his voice draws you in and takes you on an emotional
journey through new love, old love, lost love, and getting
out there and fighting for what you believe in.
He can kick ass on a rocking pop tune as "Dance In The Sunshine" or give you a velvet coating on "Morning Song"
and take you to the cynical with "Is It So"? If you want
someone to lead the march with belief listen to "It's A
Time To Shine". If country is your bag, take a listen to
"I'm Wanting You So" and the way Gary winds around the lyric "Misty soft like a cotton sheet".
What makes for great music is great musicians and a great vocalist/stylist/singer, however you want to say it
is a great musician, the vocal chords being the instrument. And like any great musician, it's a combination of factors; the mind, the heart, the technique,and the talent that ties it all together. That's the package you get with Gary Hendrickson.
The inspiration of a superb vocalist always draws a coterie of talent to him. In this case it's Bill Lohr with
super fine arrangements, keyboards and the task of co-producing assisted by the phenomenal engineering of Kevin McGettigan all bringing to life some damn good songs by
Michael Hollingsworth from Magnif Music.
