âThree years on from the release of their first album âDig a Little Deeperâ and it seemed like the time was right for The Groovechasers to record a live album to reflect the changes in the bandâs sound after three years gigging round bars, clubs and festivals in the South East.

The opening track, Herbie Hancockâs soul/jazz classic Watermelon Man, was recorded at Lashings Bar and Restaurant in Maidstone on a hot and steamy Thursday evening in June in front of a packed audience with, unusually for a jazz gig and much appreciated by the band, a line of dancers having a good time in front of the stage.

In complete contrast the remaining tracks were recorded before a laid back, but equally appreciative, audience at the âJazz at West Courtâ session on a warm Sunday evening in July in the garden of Richard and Carole Finnâs delightful home in the village of Detling in Kent The audience arrived with an assortment of picnics, wine, deck chairs and blankets and settled down at strategic positions on Richard and Caroleâs well-tended lawns for an evening of jazz classics ranging from Duke Ellingtonâs Creole Love Call to Weather Reports Birdland.


The album captures the spirit and energy of these live performances and demonstrates the Groovechasers talent for adapting music from across the jazz spectrum to their trademark blues and soul influenced style.â
