HOP HIP is not backwards or a misprint, its simply my version of jazz meets hiphop. I was told that the two don't mix, well I beg to differ. I believe both genre can co-exist and even rise to its own level. You have the best of both the funky broken beat of hiphop, drop some sub bass, the melodic chords that change on time, offbeats and syncopation of acid jazz. I like this a lot. Creating and mixing it up like this allows me unlimited latitude as to different chord changes and riffs. I can start off in a Ebmin and add 9ths or whatever variations work. Strings although are powerful instruments, they can be almost a quiet whisper then creep up on you and then faded out while a synth takes the lead. I see no boundaries as far as what the context or length of a piece will be, I try to keep them around 4 but no more than 5 minutes.
These tracks will always be full of instrumentation though, I love horns, flutes and rhodes.
The hip hop beats will keep your head bobbin and your feet tappin, just don't pat your foot while driving. Its contagious..
