Details:
After countless hours of hard work, Rely Records is pleased to announce the completion of Glintâs first full-length studio release, Mode to Joy. Fashioned as an original infusion of âjambient rock,â âspace pop,â and âmélange-stream,â Glintâs ambitious debut, as suggested by its fusion of qualifiers, openly conveys the most prominent force propelling the success of the band and their recent string of sold-out shows.
The foursomeâs facility to braid varying sounds into a single distinct style mirrors an overdue revolution in music as a whole. After decades of subduing crossbred artistry with unfounded assertions that âexperimental music wouldnât sell,â research from new mediums is beginning to push trade execs towards the realization that inventive outfits like Glint can not only defy genre boundaries, but furthermore, can actually find mainstream success through such cross pollination.
Since the release of 2005âs EP Discipline is Remembering What you Really Want, the geographically diverse band rounded out by vocalist and guitarist Jase Blankfort, drummer Mateus Tebaldi, bassist Dylan Kelehan and keyboardist Phil Selesnick, has been doing just that. From the stage to their studio work, theyâve forged a connection with a growing fanbase that one admirer described flawlessly as âan intonation created between artist and listener rivaling a first crush.â Critics have been equally as smitten with the boys.
"With echoes of Canadaâs Our Lady Peace, combined with some hints of Coldplayâs atmospheric rock and the Dave Matthews Bandâs penchant for letting the grooves take them where they may, Glint still manage to put forth their own original sound," said David McPherson, former A&R representative at Sony and a freelance contributor to indie-music.com. Similar sentiments have poured in from scores of other industry made-men, including Grammy-award winning producers Michael Beinhorn and Kyle and Jason Lehning.
âBrilliant,â said Pete Harris, publisher of Indie Sound NY and founder of HarrisRadio.com, on the outfitâs output, ââ¦a sound that is well beyond their years.â
The primary source of this lauded output is Jase Blankfort, who, at 19, has already garnished his resume with a variety of entertainment gigs. The enigmatic frontman began singing in theatrical productions on Broadway at the age of12 and the experience shows. His voice, a tumultuous baritenor, cuts through fluctuating verse like softened butter, peaking over both fragile musings and near-violent screams, only to duck with the arrival of soft movements into pouting bass-born whispers both earnest and chilling. When paired with lyrics that mirror their mediumâs intensity and style, Blankfortâs voice and verse are both impossible to categorize and impossible to ignore.
â[Blankfortâs] songwriting surpasses people I worked with who have been at it for 30 years,â according to Beinhorn, whoâs produced acclaimed works for No Doubt, REM, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins and others.
Still vocal prowess and refined language are only one piece of the essence defining Glintâs auditory concoctions. While Blankfort wails on the mic bemusing over his thought-sodden lines like a stage-assured Jeff Buckley, the boys to his rear work just as vigorously in scaffolding his aptly-equipped voice with bounding blues-jam backgrounds that lend themselves as readily to Blankfortâs honeyed voice and near-math-rock riffs, as they do to raucous 15- minute instrumental fusions of Phish-funk/Dead-driven spontaneous noodling.
âQuality I donât come by anymore,â said the Rainbow Roomâs Les Fagin of Glintâs recent show at the famed L.A. venue, âa performance that emits emotion and beauty.â
With beauty though, invariably comes sacrifice; a notion known all too well by the band.
Having dropped everything from guitars, homes, scholarships and most importantly girls, all in an effort to map their sound, Glintâs newfound successes are nothing if not earned. By struggling unrelentingly in a channel too often oversaturated by conventionality and re-dubbed mimicry, the unwavering foursome embodies not just the theme of their albumâs emotive melodies, but additionally as sincere reflections of each albumâs very title.
Through the shared understanding that âdiscipline is remembering what you really want,â the resilience of Glint as seen in their grassroots approach to artistic expression and expansion has aided them in locating a highly unique sound, an enthusiastic following and, above all else, access to lifeâs ever-elusive âmode to joy.â
Please feel free to launch a virtual taste of âMode to Joyâ in the discography section of www.glintonline.com, and after listening, browse the new store and buy your own copy (filled with magnificent art). Paul Kostabi, musician/artist, who has not only played with The Ramones, but was also commissioned to do album art for them, fell in love with Glint. After giving him several rough tracks of Mode To Joy, Kostabi immediately offered to do the entire album artwork and photography.
Weâre always eager to connect with new fans, friends and business partners. As mentioned above, itâs these creative alliances between non-obvious parties that supply music with a vision, life with a hope and a world once wed to darkness with a glint.
