Deep psych, electric songs and improvisations for your life, metaphysical musicology in action
5 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Psychedelic, JAZZ: Free Jazz
Details:
5-Track ... electric guitar & sing
Wes Amundsen ... electric bass guitar
Patrick Lenon ... drum kit
poster art by Thomas "The Cat" Nelson
This music was recorded at the club known as Chop Suey in the Capitol Hill region of Seattle, Earth. I used a mini-disc recorder on the stage floor and then combined that recording with one made by the soundman (Brent). I am pleased with the results... Also with Brent's unexpected but fine use of echo on certain vocals ("What To Do" & "Morning Train")
I think this was our first show with Patrick on the drums. "Asia Major" is a free improvisation which involves a 7-string guitar tuned to a 5-note major scale. "What To Do" is 3-chord rocknroll. "Guitoracle" is a phenomenon derived from my interests in dowsing and subatomic physics, wherein an audience member asks us a question and we play the answer. I will be doing more with the concept. Hit the e-mail button if you would like us to perform or record a Guitoracle Question for you.
The last jam of the set: "East Meets West / Morning Train / Wes' Mood." "East Meets West" is a simple 4-note motif in A major, and a nice lead-in to the minor-bluesy "Morning Train." "Morning Train" is the first song I wrote after moving to Seattle in 2002, lying in a park at 6:30am after watching an amazing all night set by Siamese. Patrick knew "Morning Train" from a CD of mine that Dan and/or Evan Strauss gave him two years ago - we had never played it together before... "Wes' Mood" was written during an Underground Weather rehearsal wherein we each picked a mood and then improvised, or musically channelled, the mood. Wes chose "wavy," sort of a stoney-porch-afternoon-in-the-summer feeling. The guitar melody fell into place so naturally... What a great mood! Thanks, Wes!
