Details:
The style description looks weird but itâs the nearest I could come to capturing the elements of the music. As a guitar player weaned on rock music in the 70s, broader influences have shaped my take on jazz. And yes, I do like Sun Ra! Hence the straight ahead jazz trio playing on the album is matched with some stuff from outside the idiom of bebop guitar. The album is a mix of band and solo tracks. Of the band cuts, some are swingâtype tunes modeled on jazz standards, while others, like âPersis the Belovedâ grew into something outside the mainstream, and (to my ears) couched in other musical forms. Or maybe itâs just Latin jazzâ¦..

With the solo guitar pieces, I had in mind great recordings by (amongst others) Joe Pass, Barney Kessel and Kenny Burrell (the lovely acoustic cuts on Lotus Blossom). But I was also moved early on by the solo records of musicians like Steve Howe, which run the gamut of musical styles â from ragtime to rock and classical â and a rare solo record by Anthony Philips, which had some crazy-sounding stuff on harmoniums and detuned twelve-string acoustics. Anyway, these bits of my early listening perhaps influence solo pieces like âSundialâ, âFor the Disappearingâ and "Newbornâ. I hope the above gives some idea of what to expect â and of course itâs just my perspective, so Iâm looking through the wrong end of the telescope and all that! Do have a listen for yourself.

Thanks for checking out my music!
Peace - Andy Hagiioannu
