ROCK: Folk Rock, CLASSICAL: Contemporary

Details:
Hat Trick is unique. Over the years 1982-1991 that the band worked full-time in the Sydney music scene, many tried to categorise them. Words like eclectic, classical/rock, folk/rock still were not able to capture the bandâs essence.

With a twin-violin assault, and a rockânâroll rhythm section, Hat Trick created an exciting and joyous sound by drawing on songs by Celtic folk-rockers Steeleye Span, and Fairport Convention, original rocked up arrangements of âClassical chartbustersâ (Mozart, Beethoven, Bach et al), 80s fusion/classical group Sky, as well as bluegrass standards and original songs, all delivered with a healthy dose of humour.

The band continued to grow in popularity over the next few of years, working most of Sydneyâs live music venues, and touring interstate. In 1988, Hat Trick released Beethoven Roll Over on CD. It has been suggested that this recording was the first independently produced CD in Australia.

In 1991 the band decided to call it a day in order to pursue family life and solo careers.

On June 18, 2006, fans and band celebrated the release of Hat Trick â a retrospective - a compilation featuring, for the first time on CD, tracks from Live at the James Craig, Beethoven Roll Over, and Bolero.
