With electric guitar licks and a lot of percussive riffs, Kitchens gives classic nursery rhymes from âHumpty Dumptyâ to âSimple Simonâ a classic rock ân roll treatment, tailor-made for parents and kids who groove on radioâs golden oldies stations. Adults can see how many of Kitchensâ inspirations â ranging from The Beatles and Phil Collins to Led Zeppelin and James Brown â they can identify.

âRockinâ with the Gooseâ is a collection of nursery rhymes and folk songs that will appeal to the younger crowd. It will also appeal to those of us who are getting on in years and want to relive our childhoods! Lynn has put together an incredible project with this CD, the amount of work that has gone into it is really astounding. From the opening notes of the prelude to the final note of the last song, it is a listening experience.
It isnât just another dull collection of the same old nursery rhymes put to almost lifeless melodies that make you want to sleep. Youâll find melodies from modern pot to Celtic, with the titular rock, as well as some serious R&B. The studio musicians are very talented and you can tell that everyone is having a good time with this project.
âA Medleyâ is a rocking combination of many favorite Mother Goose Rhymes: âBaa Baa Black Sheep,â âCat & the Fiddle,â âOld Woman in a Shoe,â âGeorgy Porgy,â âLittle Miss Muffetâ and âMary Mary Quite Contrary.â The horns really bring the song to life, adding a whole new dimension for the listener. The arrangement of the rhymes is refreshing and well thought out.
âJack and Jillâ is a wonderfully gritty rendition, and a wonderful introduction to the Blues for the kids. There is just no way that anyone can listen to this and sit still, the music twines itself around you and makes you move. This nursery rhyme has never sounded better and is sure to become a family favorite.
This is one version of âRock-A-Bye Babyâ that wonât put you to sleep! Mike Rohas really shines on the keyboards, accepted by some more dynamite horn work. The vocals are hardcore, turning a nursery rhyme into something completely new and electric. Be prepared to wake up and rock with this track!
Hats off to Lynn and everyone who took part on this CD, it is a disc sure to be loved by all those who hear it. Make some new memories with your kids while reliving your own childhood, and ensure that the well-loved Mother Goose lives on for a long time to come.

When I first received this CD, I expected just another collection of the same old Mother Goose rhyming tunes. . .but I was pleasantly surprised!
In the CD, âRockinâ With The Gooseâ by H. Lynn Kitchens, some of the familiar lyrics youâll hear are âHumpty Dumpty,â âThree Little Kittensâ and âJack and Jillâ (which has a great blues tune!). There are also some that were not familiar to me such as, âBunch of Blue Ribbonsâ (one of my favorites!), âMyselfâ and âThree Ships.â
This CD is definitely not just another collection of old nursery rhymes. This is an updated and hip version of those rhymes, each put to various tempos. These tunes are so likeable that I found myself whistling the tunes long after the CD was finished playing!
MyParenTime.com highly recommends this CD â age-appropriate lyrics mixed with the sounds of todayâs music, makes this CD fun and a refreshing change.
