HONKY TONK DISCIPLES The question has been asked many times before... "What is Alt. Country music?". Alt. Country is just that; an alternative to the mainstream. Since mainstream Country music has gone "Pop", Alt. Country has become home to anything from the traditional influenced hillbilly honky tonk of East Nashville to the hopped up cow-punk music of Austin Texas. HONKY TONK DISCIPLES are a band from Louisiana that falls in between the boundaries of traditionally influenced country music spawned by Buck Owens and Hank Williams Sr., to the hard drinking and hard living musical era of Gram Parsons and the Rolling Stones. Aching for the time when pure country music poured from the dance halls and juke joints of the south, the HONKY TONK DISCIPLES deliver roots music with an aggressive edge. Their grooves range from smooth country waltzes reeking of heartache and pain pills, to rocking boogies that make you wanna dance and drink. November 12th, 2006 marks a one year milestone for the HONKY TONK DISCIPLES. The band has played over 60 shows, released a critically acclaimed 5 song EP, & put together their first full length collaboration, âKICKINâ UP DUSTâ, with Nashville producer & Georgia Satellites founder, DAN BAIRD. The CD features 12 songs written by band members MICHAEL HOWES and DANNY BOND. Standout tracks include the bar favorite âWHEN I DRINK I CHEATâ, and the train-like groove of âLONELY TOWNâ.
