Jaane Doe's solo debut "Burns Like Fire" defies strict genre classification, blending country-tinged Americana, Folk, & Pop into a visual masterpiece with great songwriting, vivid imagery, and inspired solos.
11 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Folk Pop, COUNTRY: Country Folk
Details:
BURNS LIKE FIRE signals Jaane Doeâs dynamic return to the music world and her debut as a solo artist. The album contains ten heartfelt, introspective, artist-rendered songs with vocals that exude realness, and vulnerability as she shares intimately, the intensity of her life experience. Jaane sings about heartbreak, loss, longing, the quest for that human connection, and the truths that accompany such lessons in life, evoking those same emotions in her listeners as she reveals her inner-self.
One might categorize the work as Americana/Folk, yet some of the more ethereal tracks (Never Cried, Circle of Love) border on cross- over pop. The albumâs one cover of Willie Nelsonâs âCrazyâ, a hit for Patsy Cline, is vocally reminiscent of that by-gone era in Country, yet hauntingly intimate and simplistic in its arrangement. With lots of lap steel, dobro, and mandolin, served up with acoustic guitar, BURNS LIKE FIRE maps itself into the region of cross-over country as well.
The incomparable Matt Smith, an in-demand N.Y. session musician who has been heard with B.B.King, Sheryl Crow, Greg Allman, Johnny Winter, Buddy Guy, Los Lobos, Ed Gerhard, Portishead, Adrian Legg, and Trey Anastasio, sits in the Producerâs chair applying stream of consciousness sensitivity that puts him in tune with Jaane Doeâs artistic vision, as the CD is expressively colored to complement Jaane Doeâs substantial lyric and melodic content.
Jaane and Matt working together on this project is a re-kindling of a musical connection that goes back many years to when they were starting out, in upstate N.Y. playing together in the band Sea Stone. The two create a viable marriage artistically, as they blur the edges of genre constraints and make a recording that has something for everyone.
"Wonderful music..." Joe Vitale
â...warm and heartfelt.â Patrick Adams
"...pleasing to the soul." Ultraphonic
"...sings like an angel..." Haakon Askeland
Jaane Doe has been part of the musical machinery in the U.S.
for more than three decades. From her early roots as a folk-rocker, through her evolution into pop, hard rock, and studio session work, she has stemmed the tides of change in the music industry, continuously re-inventing herself to stay in the game.
Jaane Doe has been heard from East Coast venues such as the Guthrie Center, and the famous Caffe Lena in Saratoga N.Y.
to the West Coast playing The Mint, The Roxy The Whiskey,
The Coach House and The Troubadour where folk icons such as
Tom Rush, Don McLean and Arlo Guthrie have graced the stage.
Successful endeavors of the past include 1988 record contract with Rhino/Rampage as the lead singer of the Metal band CRISIS, and major contributor to âOld Dogs New Tricks Productionsâ, a company founded by Joe Schermie, original bass player for THREE DOG NIGHT.
In the span of her career, she has worked with, or opened for some legendary names in the music business including Motown Producer Bobby Taylor (writer/producer of ABC by the Jackson Five) Don Was, original members of âThree Dog Nightâ Joe Schermie (bass) and Floyd Sneed (drums) Soko Richardson and Joe Kelly of theâIke and Tina Turner Reviewâ, The Chambers Brothers, Bob Weir, Dwight Yoakam, Red Hot Chilie Peppers, Wayne Devillier (music director for Al Hirt) Tommy Chong, Matt Smith, Sweet Pea Atkinson,Harry Bowens, Eric Andersen, The Waters, Andrew Berliner, Roger Fischer and Michael Derosier (guitarist and drummer for HEART)
Taking a hiatus from the musical world to devote her time and energies to family life in the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts, she has come full circle, and as her children reach an age of greater independence, she returns to the scene, blazing a new trail with a solo album BURNS LIKE FIRE, her latest incarnation in the Americana genre.
