A rocky soulful sound with a touch of jazz. Its what happens to a piano player who can't decide between Norah Jonea and Foo Fighters. 8 MP3 Songs POP: with Live-band Production, EASY LISTENING: Soft Rock Details: When you think Janna Mercedes, you think pop rock, infl uenced by jazz, and an atmosphere that says soul. Its what happens to a piano player who canât decide between Foo Fighters and Norah Jones. She stands behind her keyboard because she fi nds sitting too restrictive, too staid. She opens in sound, a skillful mix of chords and melody that fi lls the room and thrills your soul. She nods at the drummer, and the song begins. Now you hear her voice, an arresting sound, almost sweet, and youâre swept up with the rest of the audience in an experience of the soul. Janna has been playing gigs around her hometown of Darwin, Australia for 3 years, either with her band Stokes Hill (now dissolved due to bassist moving town), or as a solo artist. In either case, she holds her own as a musician and songwriter, captivating her audience with the sound she creates. Her performing experience dates back to her early teens when she began playing with her church band. Since then she has played fundraising benefi ts, National Youth Week events, the Darwin Festival, and Darwinâs biggest musical event BASSINTHEGRASS. In between these come sets at the indie music venues around town. She continually looks forward, integrating new styles into her playing, always looking for the next awesome lyric, and creating a sound to match it. Never really one for playing covers, she has too much of her own to let out, but she readily admits infl uences from a wide range of artists - Coldplay, John Mayer, Norah Jones, Foo Fighters, Van Morrison, Missy Higgins, Maroon 5 - and thatâs just a few. With the release of her debut EP, simply named Janna, she is on her way. The EP is almost an album with 8 tracks from a full sound to clear, spacey piano and vocals. Running (track 1) has been singled out as the first up for radio release, but donât be mistaken, theyâre all good (and weâre not just saying that!). The words connect, what she sings is the way weâve felt, because sheâs seen life and cries for help like the rest of us would like to. Janna Mercedes.
