Here is the news
Jim Preen is a singer songwriter based in the UK who continues to play around the clubs and bars of London when he can. Time is limited because although he wishes music were his career his real job is as a journalist.
Jim has seen quite a bit of the world, mostly working for the American network ABC News. During the first Gulf War in 1991, he covered stories in Jordan, Israel, Kuwait and Iraq. He also spent memorable stints in the Holiday Inn in Sarajevo, during the Bosnian war.
Jim was with the US Marines in Somalia, covered the Concorde crash in Paris and the sinking of the Russian submarine Kursk near Murmansk. He has won two Emmys â America's highest television award â one for a story in Kuwait after the Gulf War and one for a Clinton/Yeltsin summit in Moscow.
And thatâs all fine, but what he really likes doing is singing the blues â hence the albums Donât Stare at the Celebrities and Shopping in Bed.
The songs show the influences of Tom Waits, Randy Newman and Taj Mahal and are closely informed by his experiences as a journalist.
The musicians on the album read like a whoâs who of London players including The Kick Horns (Eric Claptonâs favourite horn section) Mark Feltham from Nine Below Zero and Simon Edwards a bass player who seems to be on everyoneâs album.
