Details:
Canton Michigan â Singer/songwriter Jerry Morris has had a colorful and exciting career in the music business, starting as a Rock & Roll singer and later with an R & B band called, âThe Renegades.â After a stint with the Renegades as lead singer, Jerry regrouped with his band and the band became Jerry and The Emanons, the group included Bob Balog, Dennis Berg, Jim Kozan. Playing teen clubs, college fraternity parties and local gigs, the band met with local DJâs and they started playing the group on the radio.
What a history Jerry Morris has to his credit with such names as Diana Ross and The Supremes, Smoky Robinson and The Miracles. Later opening and playing with Chuck Jackson, The Contours, Jackie Wilson, The Temptations, Fontana Bass, and many other Motown greats, they were the first white band to play the Graystone ballroom, and the TwentyGrand. The scene was similar to Buddy Holly at the Apollo, when the curtain opened. You couldâve heard a pin drop, but that changed once the Emanonâs started their own special style of great music.
The group became regulars on the Frantic Ernie Durham show and broadcast live at Detroitâs so, so famous night club, The TwentyGrand. There the group played for the younger crowd in the silver room. Stars such as BB King, Nancy Wilson, and some of the jazz greats played the gold room for adults only while Jerryâs group entertained the crowds clubbing in Detroit. Backing up such groups as The Martiniqueâs, the Royal Jokers and others from the Motown label, Jerryâs experience was nightclub gigs on Woodward in the downtown Detroit streets. Studio musicians for a Detroit studio, his band played on many records of Motown performers.
It was during this time that Jerry Morris started re-writing existing songs to fit the style of the group. Shortly after he met his wife, he left the night club scene to raise a family. It was while writing, playing drums and singing in the basement of his home, that Jerry the song writer was born. Jerry continued to write and began performing with several bands from rock, country and R & B until the early 1990âs. It was during the early nineties that Jerry focused on developing his own particular style with his own songs. Then during April of the year 2000, Jerryâs sister, Wanda, âencouraged me to make a push and go for it on my own.â
She started sending my cassette tapes to TV stations, movie stars, TV stars, record companies, recording artists, from about 1997 through the year 2000. When Hall of Fame producer, Robert Metzgar in Nashville heard Jerryâs rendition of a song which he had written as a tribute to Elvis Presley, he contacted Jerry and asked him to write a couple of songs for a recording session. My best friend, and partner Mike Brown found out about my quest, he immediately provided the money, making the dream happen.
âIt was my first music session in Music City USA. I was working with such great artists, musicians, and in one of the most famous recording studios in all the world. Working with Mr. Metzgar was the thrill of a life time. My vocal coach, and Co-producer Tony Migliore, worked with me and gave me vocal lessons which would totally change my professional singing style forever.â The guys that I worked with at Capitol Management, and Chelsea Studioâs took me under their wing and started guiding me in my professional career as a singer/songwriter.
âEven though I knew it was a very long shot at success, I returned to Michigan and pumped up, inspired again, with my head in the clouds, and determined to work harder on writing great material for my newest CD entitled, âSnap Your Fingers.â After purchasing a Yamaha keyboard, I began to write with a renewed inspiration. This keyboard opened up new horizons for me in the music business. I turned out several CDâs full of material and sent them back to the management company. Veteran hit-maker, Robert Metzgar and co-producer Tony Migliore chose the final songs for the completion of the album project.â
I look forward to the future with continued success in the songwriting and performing that I love so much.â The album has been recognized for itâs professional and very special place in the music business for having been recorded at Chelsea Studios in Nashville.
