Armed with a Takamine guitar, respectable vocal range and lyrical wit, Joe Olivier has compiled a gem of a debut release. Television Voo Doo and Other Space Junk is a unique, ear-opening smorgasbord influenced by the styles of folk, rock, rap and alternative that is sure to please a wide range of listeners. Joeâs self-proclaimed âconceptual ramblesâ are catchy acoustic rock digressions, spiced with both Gen-Ex pop-culture and pinches of novelty.

Television Voo Dooâs title track speaks for itself, referring to the hypnotic influence that visual media has on the subconscious. âPeople need to take responsibility for their actions, but I believe that Hollywood has more of an influence on our behavior than most of us are aware ofâ explains Joe.

Joeâs witty side is exemplified in tracks such as Bugspray and Grocery Store Etiquette, which refer to Seinfeldesque life experiences that we can all relate to. Other songs such as Hypocritical 2 Faced Back Stabber and Mirror Mirror contain more of an opaque yet comical narration of human existence.

Joe has ten years of live performances under his belt, most recently as part of the âCarl and Joe duoâ with Carl Briggs. Though he started out using cover tunes as the foundation of his gigs, he rapidly transitioned to originals. Songs like Man With Grey and You Know" go way backâ. The enchanting ballad Amnesia is both lyrically and melodically addictive. âI never intended it to be ballad-like. It was darker and had an edgy progression when I first started playing it. Carl began playing a series of chords one day that prompted me to change it. I credit him with helping to progress Amnesia into what it is todayâ.

Joe Olivier credits â60âs and 70âs classic rock, early MTV, college radio, and the Seattle Invasionâ as major influences of his musical style. He explains that his experience as a college radio deejay truly broadened his horizons. âI was pretty closed minded when I started deejaying in college. The platform was to play what no one else was playing. It took me a while to grasp that concept. I have the utmost respect for that diversity now. I love a catchy tune like anyone else, but my experiences there influenced my creativity. It was then I became interested in songwriting and playing guitarâ.
