ROCK: Folk Rock, ROCK: Roots Rock
Details:
With each day that passes, Tennessee born songwriter John Harlan Wasem has quickly become one of Chicago's most promising performers. Through his crafty songwriting and unyielding tour schedule (150 shows in 2005), Wasem has been rapidly gaining the attention of thousands across the country and beyond. JHW displays his musical roots by alternating styles with each song, while still maintaining a folk-rock sensibility. John's music demonstrates the influence of the legends, such as The Beatles and Bob Dylan, but still flows with an originality that stands out on its own. His vocals groove with a unique, hard-edge dynamic that is rarely found in today's new artists. Wasem's percussive guitar work, powerful vocals, and energetic stage presence provide his audience with an energy that is universally welcomed.
Itâs safe to say that 2005/06 have been exciting times for the Chicago-based songwriter. John teamed up with his good friend, drummer, and future M.D., Mike Mirro (formerly of Umphreyâs McGee) and a number of other serious players to help bring his songs to life. Recording sessions with veteran producer Jim Reeves (Allman Brothers, Joe Cocker, ZZ Top) included the talents of such artists as pianist Joel Cummins (Umphreyâs McGee), bassist Matt Longbons (Ghettobillies) and lead guitarist Marcus Rezak (recent Berklee School of Music grad). âThe Sparrow Four Sessionsâ were recorded live, with few exceptions, at Reeves Audio in Evanston, IL. John Wasem âThe Sparrow Four Sessionsâ has been scheduled for release in January 2007.
John Wasem performs solo, as a duo (w/ various soloists) or as 4, 5, and even 6 piece acoustic/electric rock band. John Wasem Band is a conglomerate of rising stars, which can easily be put side by side with the best, both locally and nationally. Together, the band has headlined such major Chicago venues as the Double Door, Martyrs, Kinetic Playground and The Abbey. In addition, John has personally been a resident performer at the historic Wise Fools Pub for the past 3 years.
Extensive US and UK tours are currently being booked for 2007...stay tuned!
