Details:
"Light of the Unknown", the first CD released by Joelle Gilmour, tells a story through the songs, of the evolution of spirit. The message is simple, no matter where you have been, or where you are, it is never too late to be where your heart wants to be. When your heart is in line with your lifeâs choices, the world becomes an ocean of possibilities, and amazing things can happen.
âIn order to know the light, we must experience the darkness.
In this dark place, often we get lost, and forget how to step out of it. Facing your fear, realizing that it is a veil of illusion, allows you to embrace your power and step into the light of the unknown. We are given this opportunity many times throughout our life, life is full of changes and challenges, crisis and joy, if can connect to ourselves in a way that we maintain a centeredness, we can ride those waves, and experience â the gift in the garbageâ. Our personal power, resides here.â
This CD represents Joelleâs own struggle, with embracing the light, and stepping forward into unknown, the metamorphosis of self, heart and soul. Shedding layers to touch the calm, still waters of the heart, to find her self in the reflection. Exposed and vulnerable, but genuine and sincere, approaching life from a place of strength and faith, rather than masked and fearful.
Journey through the gentle yet deliberate sounds, explore the words, and let the music move through you, to the place of the heart.

Celebrating lifeâ¦
Even at an early age, Joelle Gilmour felt the pull of a musical calling.
With or without an audience, a pretend microphone in one hand and the living room carpet as her stage, passionately, Joelle would sing along to the classics of Anne Murray, Kenny Rogers, the Carpenters and Simon & Garfunkel. This humble amusement soon evolved into total musical immersion as a way to process the painful blows that life would deal her over the years.
The loss of her mother at the tender age of 14 sent a young teenager (already aged beyond her years) into a tail spin of confusion, loneliness and over responsibility. Exhausted and unequipped, Joelle went from child to adult overnight in an effort to compensate for the huge loss to the family. But somewhere in the vibrations emanating from her guitar and vocal chords, a void was filled⦠serenity was attained and musical passion was nurtured. âThere were days when the music was all that I had.â As the years passed, Joelle continued to evolve through the pain and vulnerability of being human moving ever closer to peace and contentment through musical expression. As a result, an artist emerged.
Weaved throughout her lyrics is a story of this evolution from pain and suffering to pure joy and acceptance of self. She defies the frailty of existence by celebrating life in this moment⦠right here⦠right now. Validation and hope emanate from Joelleâs songs as she urges her audience to live, love and laugh every minute of every day and know that they are not alone.
A rich voice that can climb multiple octaves, Joelle projects a sincerity and honesty that can stir deep emotions in her audience. Itâs impossible to listen without humming along and resonating with a mosaic of trials and triumphs woven throughout the verses of some 10 years of lyrical expression. Primarily self taught and directed, Joelle has been strongly influenced by musicians who write their own lyrics. She gains much of her inspiration from the musical artistry of Sarah Mclachlan, Jann Arden, Tori Amos, Jewel and Blue Rodeo.
Joelle is no stranger to stage performance with a long resume of musical appearances ranging from the growing Canola festival in Fort St. John, BC to Nanton at the Still Standing Music festival .As well, she has competed at the Canadian Country Hall of Fame competition in 2001. Blossoming from the intimate coffee shop jam sessions where she can really connect with the group, Joelle is moving audiences all over the big city on a much larger scale.
Recently featured on CHRB 1140AM radio in Calgary, Joelle has launched her professional music career (with Mike Fijal) with original works soon to be released via her first CD entitled LIGHT OF THE UNKNOWN. Itâs a message of healing and hope.
