"MONTGOMERY IN THE RAIN" album liner notes from Steven L. Sharp, CEO of Sharp Objects
"K A Patterson brings to the table a fresh and innovative twist to the Classic Country sound. With each new collection of his writing that I hear I think "Wow, these songs are brilliant" or "this is as good as Country gets". And then he tops it with the next session.
His most recent offerings are no exception. "I Can Only Be Your Friend" and "Lost Within Your Charm" are truly great traditional songs. And what can you say about my favorite of the bunch, "Montgomery In The Rain"? What a cool Bluegrass tune with an awesome feel, lyrics, production - everything!
But it isn't just about slick production. K A writes remarkable Country songs with strong, infectious melodies and smart, meaningful lyrics, built around the true Country sound. Coupled with the great production quality, that makes the CD in your hands a "must listen" on the Nashville Independent Artist list. I urge everyone to give a listen and become familiar with K A Patterson. It's an amazing musical journeyâ¦"

If you arrived here searching for top quality TRADITIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC, youâve come to the right place. Ditto if your quest is to locate excellent CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY MUSIC. In fact, those of you seeking CROSSOVER COUNTRY that might be considered COUNTRY POP or even EASY LISTENING might just find something to your liking here as well...
Thatâs because listeners everywhere describe the music of Rising Nashville Songwriter, K. A. PATTERSON, as CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY with DEEP TRADITIONAL COUNTRY ROOTS, an occasional touch of BLUEGRASS or FOLK, and sometimes the character of LIGHT FAVORITES or POP Music.
K. A. PATTERSON songs combine life experiences with lifelong interest in various musical styles to yield Fresh New Country Songs. Make no mistake; most are plenty Country enough, with that good OLD TIME CHARACTER, to satisfy any connoisseur of TRADITIONAL COUNTRY. But a subtle hint of influence from other genres makes a K. A. PATTERSON song that 1 in 100, standing apart from the 99 SOUND ALIKE ME-TOO'S.
BIOGRAPHY
Following his birth on Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona, K. A. Patterson spent his first 16 years of life traveling the country and the world as the son of a career military father. This "Air Force Brat" background gave him both Minuses and Plusses in life.
The Negatives: While attending 11 schools in 6 states and West Germany over 12 years before High School graduation, establishing long-term relationships and enjoying lifelong friendships were both nearly impossible. And the disruptive effects of continually moving and having to become familiar with all new people, places, and things is always especially tough on kids--at any age.
The Positives: Most people havenât had the opportunity to experience life in multiple regions of America and a foreign country and to travel in 8 European nations by the time they graduate from High School.
Although his first song was written at age 11, when he was still known to most people as Keith, his first commercially viable song was penned at 14, which was still before he owned or could play an instrument. That song, "I Still Love You So", is included on the "MONTGOMERY IN THE RAIN" CD. About six months after writing it, he bought his first guitar from a friend for $6, and began teaching himself to play. Having mastered a sufficient number of chords after a short while, he was able to play and sing the song for his friends.
By the time of his father's 1974 retirement in the Florida panhandle, the High School Junior had become known to most of his friends as âKAâ. During college days and into early adulthood, KA gradually drifted back to being addressed primarily by his first name, but retains the KA handle today for music career purposes. He is a graduate of Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, where cross-town rival Fort Walton Beach High School is known for turning out talented college quarterbacks and intra-county rival Niceville High School was attended by John Denver while his U.S. Air Force dad worked at Eglin AFB. He attended a Christian college in Temple Terrace (Tampa suburb) and received his degree from Okaloosa Walton Community College in Niceville.
He met and married his wife, Scarlett ("Louisville Lady"), while living in the Sunshine State. They moved to Fort Mill, SC (Charlotte, NC area) for 2-1/2 years before becoming permanent members of the Middle Tennessee community during the summer of 1988. Scarlett, now a Registered Nurse for many years in Nashville hospitals, and Keith have been married since May of 1984. They have two daughters, born in 1987 and 1990. He experieced the privilege of "giving away" their eldest daughter in marriage to a fine young member of the United States Air Force during the Summer of 2006.
Occupation wise, Keith's career in Electrical Construction Engineering spans nearly three decades. He started working in this field on a part-time basis as a Drafting Trainee while still in college in 1978, and began full-time work as a Draftsman in early 1979. Advancing rapidly, he attained the level of Senior Electrical Designer in just over 9 years, which is considered quite an accomplishment in the Consulting Engineering arena. A Certified Lighting Designer and past Vice President and Treasurer for the Tennessee Valley Chapter of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), Keith currently serves as IIDA (International Illumination Design Awards) Committee Chairman for that non-profit organization. Industry trends making the Engineering career increasingly demanding and less secure fueled his redoubling of efforts since 2004 to take songwriting to a financially productive level.
His music is often described as "unique" and difficult to "pigeon-hole" in terms of comparison with other popular writers. But the list of songwriters and singers influencing K. A. Patterson's musical style during the formative years of his songwriting career, the late 1960's through the early 1980's, reads like a who's who of the Country, Rock, and Pop genre's of that period. (Visit www.kapattersonmusic.com for the comprehensive list of 150 or so.) Consequently, you'll find a little of all of these, and many more, in K. A. Patterson music.
That music is basically Country, but a uniquely styled Country that appeals to all lovers of good music, without respect to genre boundaries. The one compliment that K. A. Patterson values above all others, and hears quite often, is "I don't generally care for Country, but I like nearly everything you write" or "I like all your music, but I'm not really a Country fan". When those sentiments are heard with regularity, K.A. says "I am doing my job" - "I rest my case". And, of course, a great big "thank you!" straight from his heart.
Since the Spring of 2006, K.A.'s catalog has been represented on MUSIC ROW in Nashville and in other American Recording Centers by SHARP OBJECTS - AN ALL MUSIC COMPANY, located on Music Row. SHARP OBJECTS CEO, legendary Promoter, Plugger, and Publisher, Steven L. Sharp, has pitched and/or promoted over 60 #1 Country hits, beginning with Alan Jackson's "Here In The Real World" in 1989.
Steven's track record of finding great songs and getting them in front of Industry Players who turn them into hits is unparalleled. Because of this, Country Music & Radio Contributor for the New York Times, Phil Sweetland, writes "As one of Country's greatest Promotion Executives, Steven learned WHAT WORKS at radio".
So it was truly a gratifying and vindicating moment for K.A. when Steven and all the Principals at Sharp Objects were, in Steven's own words, AMAZED, BLOWN AWAY, and VERY EXCITED the first time they listened to a submission of his songs. And they responded by delivering K.A. the rare compliment of offering him a contract on the spot - which he accepted. INDUSTRY GIANT, Steven Sharp, says of K.A.'s writing, "We always look for different here at Sharp Objects. This Writer is not only different but unique in everything he writes".
Check out K. A. Patterson's page on the SHARP OBJECTS website, along with all the other Sharp Objects Writers, at www.sharpobject.com. You'll find K.A. under "THE NEW BREED".
K.A.'s association with Sharp Objects has excelerated his exposure through Writers' Night appearances and Showcases at Writers' venues like the FRENCH QUARTER and the World Renouned BLUEBIRD CAFE. Sharp Objects Writers appear "In The Round" on a regular basis in Charity Benefit Showcases at these and other Nashville Writer-focused entertainment establishments. You may wish to periodically check the NEWS section of K.A.'s website for announcements of upcoming 2007 Showcases in which K.A. will be appearing!!
