âOn the right trackâ The new album of Kai Kreowski: INFO
Rain patters against the window, while it is warm and comfortable inside: A relaxing evening with a glass red wine: low music comes from the boxes, a jazz piano, expressive but not obtrusive vocals, groovy drums begins and then "WOW" a jazzy saxophone-soloâ¦
The stereo plays "On the right track", the new record of the German Songwriter and multi-talented musician Kai Kreowski. There are significant differences to his debut album "Under the surface" on which he played all instruments by himself. (vocals, piano, guitar, bass, clarinet, percussion)
He tackled the matter differently by working with several talented musicians and experimenting with a new modern jazz-pop-style.
As a result, the music turns out to be more powerful, more relaxed and reminds of the amazing Jazz-Singer and Piano-Player Jamie Cullum.
"On the right track" derives from an intense, productive and creative collaboration with the drummer Christian Rollwage who gives the record its tight groove and the right swing.
The cellist Caroline Wiese conjures her instrument in a fairly emotional and soft way, whereas the female singer Judith Adomeit who has a very expressive voice turned out to be a perfect duet-partner of Kreowski.
The recordings were overshadowed by the tragic death of the saxophonist Alex Piepmeier who had played extraordinary and breath-taking solos on four tracks of the album.
Kai Kreowski: âThat was a painful shock and I was about to relinquish the whole project. I have lost a good friend and terrific musician and it hurts so much that we can't play our music together any more. The songs themselves helped me to carry on; they are full of hope and joy and I am very proud of the result of our teamwork."
Kai Kreowski (vocals, guitar, piano, bass, clarinet) Christian Rollwage (drums, percussion)
Judith Adomeit (vocals)
Simon Bergholz (guitar)
Carolin Wiese (cello)
Alex Piepmeier (sax)
produced and mixed by Christian Rollwage and Kai Kreowski
mastered by Christian Rollwage and Jobst Eberhardt
Short Bio:
Kai Kreowski was born in 1982 in Berlin. He got his first guitar when he was 10 years old and started to write his first own songs. Shortly afterwards, he began with piano lessons.
During his school time, he was a member of several rock-bands where he functioned as lead-singer and guitarist. At the age of 15, Kreowski took clarinet lessons for three years.
After finishing school, he did his social work and began to study Geo Science at the University of Bremen.
It did not take long until he realized that this was not what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. After realizing that he really needs music, Kai Kreowski quit Geo Sciences and started to study music and German literature at the University of Oldenburg.
At the age of 21 he was the second winner of the band-contest "act 2003" (region North-Germany) and recorded two songs for the sampler "act 2003". Afterwards, Kai played several solo-concerts.
In 2004 he recorded his first album "Under the surface" on which he played all instruments by himself. (vocals, piano, guitar, bass, clarinet, percussion).
He formed a new band and played several gigs in Germany.
To earn money he started to work as a guitar and clarinet teacher in school.
In 2006 he recorded a new album "On the right track" and created a new jazzy style, which reminds of Jamie Cullum. He worked together with several Jazz musicians who also influenced his new formed style. Additionally, Kai Kreowski has written and produced the music for "Sound of Shakespeare", a literature-performance project of students of the University of Oldenburg.
