HIP HOP/RAP: Hip Hop, HIP HOP/RAP: Southern Style
Details:
More than a year ago, Lady Mck began laying tracks and hitting the studio in hopes that her debut album release would be a success. With life lessons and experiences set to smooth beats and rhythms straight from the Dirty South â Lady Mckâs âLive & Learn,â scheduled for release Friday, is what street dreams are made of â and well worth the wait.
About the killer albumâ¦..
The first single on the CD, âDown South Bounceâ, has everything a club song is made of and the twist of Dirty South pride to keep the South ⦠well, bouncing.
âI knew this song made me wanna bounce, because thatâs what we do in the South,â Lady Mck said. âWhether weâre Jiggalatinâ, Doinâ the Ratchet, Bunny Hoppin, even the Southâs version of the Electric Slide and the Harlem Shuffle has a bounce to it.â
As the first beat drops on âDown South Bounce,â itâs clear that the song is the Southâs hood answer to Fat Joeâs âLean Back.â Adding some male-induced flavor to the cut are Mr. Homerun, Lady Mckâs brother-in-law, and album producer Playa-D.
âI have to show mad love to Playa-D for what he did to this album. He didnât try to mold my music into what he wanted it to be he just let me be me,â Lady Mck said. âLike I said in one of my songs âhe had a vision and she had a dream, when they put it together people couldnât handle the team.â I couldnât have asked for a better producer.â
During some of her performances, Lady Mck said she has seen the power of âDown South Bounceâ and the reaction of the audience, and even her two daughters, pushed her to make the song the CDâs first single.
âItâs a hot song! Everyone loves a song you can dance to. You canât help but to dance to this song,â she said. âItâs like as soon as the beat drops you have to move; plus my daughters love it.â
So far, âDown South Bounceâ has lit up the radio airwaves on Texas and Louisiana stations, including The Breeze 107.1, Magic 102.5, 97.9 The Box and The Vibe 105.
While her first single adds some club fun to the album, for Lady Mck, the most powerful track on the 20-song album has to be âSlow Downâ, a song dedicated to the youth of our area and worldwide who are headed down the wrong paths in life.
âSo many times you hear about or know someone, usually someone young, who is just trying to live too fast. Most of the time, they end up in some trouble and itâs just a waste,â she said. âWe have so many people in this area with real talent, people who could go places in life, but they get caught up in the wrong things. This song is really about slowing down before itâs too late.â
Actually, track after track on Lady Mckâs album boasts some education and schooling the Port Arthur native can pass on to anyone going through any situation. Whether looking to find a way out of a bad relationship or simply needing some inspiration to get through another day, the âNu Queen of the Southâ has a little bit of something in each song that can truly add some clarity to blurry circumstances.
