Details:
MaShica Winslow is one of Baltimore's greatest singers. At the tender age of twenty-three, she has an accomplished performance track in singing many genres of music. MaShica was raised in a loving Christian family by grandmother, Vashti Hunt, and her thirteen-year old mother, Baltimore gospel legend Sherry Hunt. Sherry discovered MaShica's talent at the early age of three when she began matching pitches that her mother sang to her.
MaShica grew up in Edmonson Village, West Baltimore, and attended the Baltimore School for the Arts. Much of her training there was directed toward classical voice, but in her spare time she would listen to gospel and R&B music. In 2001, she graduated from Morgan State University with a degree in classical music performance. While at Morgan, MaShica served as a section leader and featured soloist on selections with varying degrees of difficulty and stylistic approach.
The Morgan State University Choir has toured extensively and afforded MaShica the opportunity to perform with world-class orchestras throughout Europe and North America. She has performed with such notable musicians as Wynton Marsalis, Karen Clarke, Kim Burrell, Richard Smallwood, Kathleen Battle, Denyce Graves, Gary Bartz, Roy Hargrove, Jesse Norman, and countless others.
In the spring of 2003, MaShica earned a Master's degree in education at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. MaShica also maintains a full-time third grade teaching position. She is very devoted to helping children despite their circumstances. This passion led to her writing and performing on the Dontae Winslow CD, "Change a Life...Change the World". This project encourages kids to attend college, and to believe in themselves. Her husband, jazz trumpeter, songwriter, producer, and teacher Dontae Winslow, produced her debut CD entitled "The Real Thing." It also features writing from young stars Kenny Shelton, Jason Nelson, and Jae Deal. MaShica seeks to change and uplift people through her music.
Recently, MaShica has been featured singing the hook on "I Made It" from the new Jay-Z recording, "Kingdom Come."
Mashica's CD features guest artists
Dennis Chambers, Gary Thomas,
Gary Bartz, Larry Willis, and
Roy Hargrove.
