Gary Pane a.k.a. âThe Manatee Manâ is a full time singer/songwriter and performer and an international award winning songwriter artist; but he started out as an educator and environmentalist. He became known as âThe Manatee Manâ after swimming with the manatees back in the 80âs and writing profusely about them. The manatee songs from his first album entitled âManatee Islandâ as well as the ones here on this album were embraced by many environmental agencies including Jimmy Buffettâs own âThe Save The Manatee Clubâ, Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, Outreach for Animals and the Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park. He has performed songs for years in many of the Florida Festivals including Crystal River Manatee Festival, Weeki Wachee Springs (âHome of the Mermaidsâ) Swampfest, Blue Springs Manatee Festival,Apollo Beach Manatee Festival and MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry) in Tampa Florida!
To take his songs to the next level Gary sought out professional musicians to enhance and commercialize his music. Lead guitarists like Teddy Toye, John Leavell, and Corey Rubin; Professional keyboard player like Joe Porto, and top notch singers like Lucy Werner, Susie Porto and Yolanda Martinez make Garyâs albums radio ready.
Garyâs music not only deals with environmental themes; but the many issues that kids and teachers deal with everyday and he does it in a very entertaining way! In the song âI Hate Vegetablesâ a grown up person finds out through his shrink that his dislike for vegetables came from childhood pressure to eat them. In âBrand New Bikeâ you can feel the anxiousness of the child to ride his new bike, as his father is putting it together and safety checking it. Lucyâs now high school classmates lined up to buy the newly released album âItâs A Kidâs Worldâ by âThe Manatee Manâ to show their support for their vocally gifted classmate.
One of the most important songs on this album deals with the national school problem of bullying. The song âBully Rapâ will appeal to both adults and children who both deal with this emotionally scarring issue. School guidance counselors are using the song to help educate others about this increasing problem and one guidance counselor like the song so much he forwarded it to ASCA the (American School Counselor Association).
