Growing up in rural Virginia in the 50's and 60's, Mel was influenced by bluegrass greats like Flatt and Scruggs, Reno and Smiley, and Bill Monroe. But things changed in the 60's when Bob Dylan, the Beatles, and many other artists changed the musical landscape. While Mel still enjoys different musical genres, he has come back to writing and performing songs that are about family, friends and faith. The songs on "Music In These Mountains" are inspired by real people and places that are a part of Mel's life.
This acoustic CD features simplistic arrangements that can easily be followed. If you play a guitar and like to sing, these songs are perfect for a one-man show.
