Jack Howard played trumpet with one of Australia's best-loved bands, Hunters and Collectors; and along the way, he's played with Midnight Oil, The Living End, Little Red, You Am I, Pete Murray and many more. Jack has also been releasing his own highly-regarded CDs for the past twelve years. Lost Horizon was described as "world class...four stars" in 2009; My Lucky Day as "one of the year's great unexpected pleasures" in 2007; and Let's Fall In Love was praised for its "highly impressive songwriting" in 2004.
Shadowlands is something different again - brimful of melody and invention, Jack put this one together himself at home on his trusty imac. He plays everything but guitar (at which he sucks!) Young gun, Gerard Assi, added some inspired electric guitar across the album.
Ranging from soaring pop to cinematic instrumental to beat-driven groove, Shadowlands revolves around Jack's rich voice and trumpet and his fine piano playing. Jack writes deft and moving lyrics about growing up in Melbourne's northwestern suburbs, about love gone wrong and right; and there are also a couple of beautiful songs about his dad's last days.
